About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Chemical Process Engineer to join us at our manufacturing facility in Joliet, Illinois. Our Senior Chemical Process Engineers play a pivotal role in the successful operation of our plants and are responsible for initiating and leading improvements to unit performance in safety, production, and reliability in a dynamic team environment. You will think strategically, execute thoughtfully, and collaborate across many teams, levels, and situations. In this role, you will serve as a senior process technical resource, providing technical and operational expertise to address complex processes across business teams.

Requirements

  • B.S. Chemical Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in Chemical Engineering plant with technical fuels/ chemicals manufacturing roles.

Nice To Haves

  • Process design experience
  • Familiarity with advanced control strategies/optimization software
  • Working knowledge of RBI practices (corrosion damage mechanisms/mitigations, saltation, etc)
  • Risk assessment and HAZOP experience
  • Understanding of safety relief limits (modelling and evaluations)
  • Demonstrated understanding of modelling software (PROII, ASPEN, etc)
  • Kinetic Modelling (SOL, KBC Profimatics, etc)

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical leader on the business team by mentoring less experienced engineers on design practices, unit health monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Provide off-hours support of abnormal and non-routine operations, including unit Turnarounds.
  • Aiding in the development of long term vision and strategy for product line improvements.
  • Organizing and designing plant testing and product trials.
  • Serve as a senior resource either serving as or working with supervisors on the team to set clear objectives, and ensure priorities are aligned for the technical team.
  • Influence others and drive toward solutions without direct authority.
  • Work in a team environment with other engineering disciplines, operations, and mechanical personnel and interface with corporate technology support.
  • Ability to interface with 3rd party vendors (cost optimizations as well as developing/driving solutions).
  • Serve as process safety resource on business team leading Hazard and Operability Reviews (HAZOPs) and Risk Assessments by developing closure plans and strategies for identified risks.
  • Lead/support incident investigations as technical lead.
  • Provide support for developing and implementing various capital projects to drive margin or mitigate SHE risk.
  • Provide assistance in the field during plant startups, shutdowns or upsets.
  • Demonstrating courage of conviction to drive healthy tension for both business team and corporate technology support to promote fit for purpose outcome.

  • The expected annual salary range for this position is $140,000 - $160,000.
