About The Position

Saylor Consulting Group is a cost consulting firm providing expertise in the areas of construction management, cost management, project controls and value management. We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator with experience providing precise cost estimations with a focus on Change Order Management as well as supporting cost negotiations on a large water treatment project. Mechanical discipline preferred but any discipline (civil, architectural, structural and/or electrical) will be considered. This role is 3 days a week on site and collaborates closely with engineers, architects, contractors and our office estimating staff to ensure projects remain within budget and complete on time. This job requires the ability to be onsite 3 days per week in Orinda, CA in support of a specific client project.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years in commercial/institutional construction sector estimating with proven expertise managing change orders and leading cost negotiations.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical capabilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems and the ability to read technical drawings.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience on water/utility infrastructure projects preferred but not required
  • Certification as a Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or equivalent preferred but
  • Familiarity preferred with Bluebeam, OST, Quotesoft, Trimble, Richardson’s and MS Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full change order estimating process, including evaluating contractor proposals, validating scope changes, pricing labor and materials, and ensuring cost accuracy.
  • Coordinate and distribute work to our in office estimating staff as needed
  • Lead and support cost negotiations with contractors, architects, and clients to resolve pricing discrepancies and achieve fair market value on base scopes and change orders.
  • Analyze project plans and specifications to develop detailed cost estimates.
  • Work closely with engineers and project managers to outline project scope.
  • Review and interpret technical drawings and schematics to ensure accuracy.
  • Utilize specialized estimation software for preparing cost assessments.
  • Assess and choose materials and equipment suitable for projects.
  • Prepare and submit proposals for mechanical work.
  • Conduct risk evaluations and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Track project progress to ensure adherence to estimated costs.
  • Assist during project execution to maintain cost accuracy.
