About The Position

The incumbent for the Senior Certified Nursing Assistant (SCNA) position is responsible to provide direct nursing care to residents of the State Veterans’ Nursing Home of Florida, under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with facility policies and procedures.  Incumbent will assist with all aspects of resident care as assigned by the shift supervisor, including activities of daily living, ambulation, and mobility in facility.  Respond promptly and courteously when answering call lights.  Observe, identify, and report resident concerns or needs to the shift supervisor. Complete assignments timely, completely, accurately and in a cooperative manner. Follow established performance standards and perform duties according to nursing service and FDVA policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be employed by the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs
  • Must have current Florida Certified Nursing Assistant License or completed a training program and awaiting a test date
  • Must be willing and able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to communicate effective in English: reading, writing, speaking, and understanding
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Successful completion of the due diligence process to include, but not limited to, a Level II background check and drug test

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in long-term care or 120 bed skilled nursing facility‎
  • High school diploma or GED

Responsibilities

  • Provide the necessary assistance when giving residents the following activities of daily living nursing care: oral hygiene, bathing, dressing, and grooming, hair, and nail care, shaving, toileting, eating and drinking, and mobility
  • Assist as needed with related functions to, for, and with residents to include activities such as escorting to meals, assisting with laundry, and assisting with participation in activities
  • Perform restorative measures such as obtaining and recording vital signs/weights, and assistance with self-administration of medications. Document services provided within facility software/databases
  • Consistently work cooperatively and respectfully with residents, family or resident representatives, facility staff, physicians, ARNP’s, consultants and ancillary service providers
  • Follow Residents Rights policies at all times
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident information
  • Transport and/or escort residents to appointments as assigned
  • Assist with monitoring and accountability of residents to enable medical personnel to accomplish health related tasks
  • Attend all in-service programs, training classes, and domiciliary meetings
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for information contained in the Employee Handbook
  • Observe all facility safety, infection control and quality improvement, HIPPA policies and procedures, and internal quality improvement processes
  • Performs other related duties as required
