About The Position

Position Summary Performs patient care under the direction and supervision of the physician or advanced practice provider (APP) in an ambulatory setting. Acts as a leader to help drive quality care and a mentor for professional practice.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school (or at least one (1) year of verifiable and applicable work experience as a Medical Assistant in a patient care setting in addition to the experience required under the Experience section) is required
  • Maintains current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification
  • Maintains current certification or registry by one of the following agencies: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by National Healthcareer Association (NHA) (www.nhanow.com) Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) (www.aama-ntl.org) Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA) (www.amcaexams.com) National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) (www.ncctinc.com) Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) or Nationally Registered Certified Advanced Medical Assistant (NRCAMA) by the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) (www.nahpusa.com) Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Medical Technologists (AMT) (www.amt1.com), the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA) (www.arma-cert.org), or by American Allied Health (AAH) (www.americanalliedhealth.com) Applicants with an accepted Medical Assistant certification or registration from an agency not listed will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Minimum three (3) years as Certified Medical Assistant.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Hold completion certification of an Orlando Health verified clinical documentation training program or complete a verified training program within 2 months of hire.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a health care related position or health related education.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers data through patient or caregiver interviews and direct or indirect observation of clinical team member.
  • Documents clinical data, assessments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department specific policies.
  • Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician or APP.
  • Assists the physician, APP, or clerical team members by acting as a liaison on behalf of the patient to schedule, provide patient with scheduling information to obtain specialty testing, and/or specialty physician consultation.
  • Effectively chart prep for upcoming appointments, ensuring complete charts before patient arrival.
  • Processes incoming and outgoing calls in an independent and professional manner using sound clinical judgment.
  • Able to help lead and participate in departmental committees and special projects as assigned.
  • Demonstrates competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
  • Embraces and participates in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities.
  • Supports and demonstrates effective and professional communication with patients and family members.
  • Adheres and assures compliance with Orlando Health and department specific policy, procedures, value statements and Commitment to Excellent standards.
  • Consistently demonstrates personal and patient safety practices and adherence to infection control standards outlined in Orlando Health policies.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of the patients on his or her assigned department and/or unit.
  • Demonstrates awareness of medical/legal issues, patient rights and compliance with standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Practices the efficient use of supplies.
  • Assists business office as needed with reception, scheduling, and discharge of patients.
