About The Position

The Senior Center Specialist supports the daily operations, programming, and member experience at LIFE Senior Services’ Senior Center. The person in this role helps create a welcoming, engaging environment where older adults can socialize, participate in activities, learn, and access services. Duties include program facilitation, member intake, volunteer support, and general administrative tasks. This role collaborates closely with the Senior Center Director, fellow Specialists, community partners, instructors, and volunteers. While facilities have custodial services for major cleaning, the Specialist performs routine light cleaning such as sanitizing high-touch areas and restocking supplies as needed. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for scheduled programs or special events.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License and auto insurance.
  • Food handler’s permit (must be obtained after hire).
  • CPR and First Aid training (or willingness to obtain).
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with diverse groups, including older adults, volunteers, and community partners, both verbally and in writing.
  • Remain calm, professional, and positive while problem-solving in day-to-day situations.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and time-management skills, effectively coordinating multiple activities in a dynamic, busy environment.
  • Be proactive and adaptable, with a willingness to adjust schedules and priorities to support needs and changing project demands.
  • Possess basic computer skills, including email, word processing, and data entry.
  • Capable of managing phone coverage and operating standard office equipment (e.g., copier, printer.)
  • Have the ability to maintain a positive, professional and pleasant demeanor.
  • Have the ability to be self-motivated in an unsupervised environment
  • Have the ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Candidate is fine with sitting, standing, lifting, walking, bending, and has general mobility.
  • Candidate must have reliable transportation for use during center operations.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience in a social, recreational, or community program, particularly in a licensed health care or senior-serving setting.
  • Experience working with older adults, volunteers, or group activities.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Additional experience in customer service, hospitality, or community outreach is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and facilitating center programs, activities, classes, and events.
  • Host and support activities by welcoming participants, setting up rooms, ensuring materials are ready, and closing down afterward.
  • Occasionally lead a group of seniors on an outing.
  • Help identify member interests and contribute ideas for programming aligned with community needs.
  • Provide information to members about the facility, our programs and upcoming activities.
  • Greet visitors and members in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Conduct member enrollment and maintain accurate intake forms, survey data and records.
  • Assist members with questions and direct them to appropriate LIFE Senior Services programs as needed.
  • Support a positive, inclusive environment for all members and guests.
  • Answer phones, take messages, and provide general information about center programs.
  • Maintain calendars, schedules, sign-in sheets, attendance logs, and basic data entry.
  • Manage clerical tasks such as filing, organizing materials, and maintaining program documentation for grant purposes.
  • Communicate with Senior Center Director, program instructors, volunteers, and partner organizations regarding schedules, room usage, and program needs.
  • Coordinate room setups for classes, programs, and special events.
  • Perform routine light cleaning including sanitizing high-touch surfaces, restocking supplies, and keeping activity areas orderly.
  • Notify appropriate personnel of facility issues or unusual activity.
  • Support overall safety of the center and respond appropriately to emergencies.
  • Pleasantly assist with recruiting, welcoming, and supporting volunteers.
  • Provide guidance during activities and help ensure volunteers have what they need to perform their roles effectively.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and required annual compliance courses.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned in a cooperative, team-oriented manner.
