About The Position

Organizational Overview: The Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) is a non-profit, multi-service organization focusing primarily on the needs of children and low-income families, out-of-school and out-of-work youth and aging New Yorkers. We operate at community centers located in the neighborhoods of East Harlem and Yorkville, and seek to deliver programs that are impactful, innovative, and intergenerational. Position Summary: Reporting to the Program Manager, the Isaacs Center is seeking a Commercial Licensed Driver (CDL) to operate a minibus that will transport older adults, and other authorized personnel safely and efficiently over specified routes to and from the Senior Center, other Isaacs Center locations and various sites related to activities. The CDL Driver will conduct pre-trip inspections; observe safety regulations and policies; reinforce safety rules on the bus, keep the bus clean and free of debris and perform related work. The CDL Driver is responsible for (but not limited to), operating the vehicle in a safe, courteous, and reliable manner, assist in the onboarding and off-boarding of passengers using wheelchairs or other mobility aids and properly secure their wheelchairs in the vehicle.

Requirements

  • Must have a NY State Commercial Driver’s License, Preferable with Passenger Endorsement for 11 Passengers.
  • Must have an unrestricted license in effect for three (3) years.
  • Complete or provide completed recent Defensive Driver course.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Must have 3 references.
  • High school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Must have first aid/CPR certification.

Responsibilities

  • Transport passengers to and from destinations related to program activities, events and meetings within the established time and schedules.
  • Regulate heating, cooling and ventilation equipment provided on the bus for the comfort of the passengers.
  • Operate the vehicle in a safe, courteous, and reliable manner.
  • Perform pre/post trip vehicle inspections.
  • Keep the vehicle clean pre/post trips.
  • Communicate with program staff for supervision regarding supply needs, repair needs, participant challenges, PTO requests, etc.
  • Maintain all required 19A Certifications.
  • May be required to assist in the boarding and disembarking of passengers using wheelchairs or other mobility aids and properly secure wheelchairs.
  • Enforce safety rules for passengers (Seatbelts, wheel chair lift, client travel policies, etc.).
  • Participate in regular supervisions.
  • Must follow agency and department policies and attend mandatory agency and funder trainings.
