Summary Oversees specified daily operational tasks of the non-invasive cardiology echocardiography laboratory and Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist staff. Develops and monitors echocardiography quality, work processes, and policies and procedures with the goal of optimizing patient care.

Requirements

  • Technical School Diploma Cardiac ultrasound.
  • 3 years Pediatric and/or adult cardiac ultrasound including 2D, 3D, stress echo, and TEE. Performs in-hospital echocardiography.
  • and 1 year Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist proctor/mentor with ICAEL accreditation.
  • Knowledge of ultrasound physics and anatomy and physiology (demonstrated via individual sonographer "test" score).
  • Knowledge of Echo Test and Teach program.
  • EPIC skills.
  • Data Entry (Policy Tech, Echo Test, and Teach) skills.
  • Knowledge of in-hospital echocardiography.
  • Ability to teach and train ultrasound skills.
  • RDCS-Reg Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer ARDMS - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
  • RCS - Registered Cardiac Sonographer CCI - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
  • Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with daily operational patient care oversight for echocardiography laboratory/Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist staffs.
  • Performs high quality Transthoracic and Stress Echocardiography imaging studies per protocol on adult and geriatric patient population including the knowledge of transducer selection, equipment knobology for optimal image, and the knowledge/ability to perform all measurements, per protocol.
  • Performs the patient meet/greet (confirm ID and order), reviews history and supporting clinical data for optimum diagnostic results, conducts patient prep (explain procedure, answer questions, take BP, apply electrodes), monitors patient wellbeing during test to recognize potential medical problems and takes action, and develops documentation (including Technical Sonographer Report).
  • Provides medication/ IV insertion ( ultrasound enhancement agent, UEA) as needed.
  • Manages orientation and training of new sonographer staff including documentation of orientation and competency check list.
  • Audits and controls work processes and quality of the echocardiography department and Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist staff.
  • Collaborates with Physician leadership regarding echo quality program and meets with other Senior Cardiac Ultrasound Technologists to evaluate PI topic selection and PI speaker schedule.
  • Monitors and oversees Echo Test and Teach program including assigning skill assessment assignments, scoring skill assessments, meeting with managers and individual sonographers to discuss skill improvement opportunities, monitoring individual and group skill improvement, running reports from Echo Test and Tech system and troubleshooting system, and being a resource for Echo Test and Tech program.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies.
  • Notifies and follows-up on equipment failures and maintenance.
  • Enters IT tickets.
