GFT is seeking a Senior CAD Designer to join our Water/Wastewater Team in our Richmond, VA office. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance in your assigned office. What you’ll be challenged to do:This is an excellent career opportunity for an experienced, motivated Senior CAD Designer who thrives in a collaborative team environment. As a Senior CAD Designer, you will serve as the primary CAD resource for the Richmond office, supporting a team of engineers on a variety of municipal water, wastewater, and stormwater projects. While the primary focus of this role will be supporting the Richmond office, there may be opportunities to assist other offices as needed. This role emphasizes high-quality production, coordination, and day-to-day technical support for project delivery. In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

Requirements

  • 3-10 years or more of related experience
  • Highschool Diploma
  • Project experience with site-civil / water & wastewater / storm water / erosion & sediment control design.
  • Knowledge of construction drawings.
  • Proficient in Design Software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D)
  • Functional experience with MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed design drawings for grading and site development, utility piping, process piping of moderate to advanced complexity, including developing alignments, profiles, cross sections and details.
  • Working closely with staff engineers and other designers.
  • Work closing with clients to determine needs.
  • Perform field work as required including traveling to site to collect measurements and data.
  • Meet established budgets and delivery schedules for each assignment; for project/task scope schedule and budget.
  • Develop and refine plan, profile, and detail sheets based on engineer markups, design criteria, and project requirements.
  • Assist engineers with drafting support for pipelines, utility layouts, and related infrastructure using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and support preparation of construction documents.
  • Coordinate with engineers and other designers to ensure drawings are accurate, complete, and consistent with project standards.
  • Support updates and revisions to drawings throughout the design process, including responding to review comments and incorporating redlines.
  • Assist with assembling permit, bid, and construction plan packages.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines (e.g., structural, electrical) to integrate design elements into cohesive plan sets.
  • Maintain CAD standards, file organization, and drawing consistency for the local team.
  • Provide day-to-day CAD support to the Richmond office, with occasional support to other offices as needed.
  • Perform field verification and site visits as needed to support accurate drafting and documentation.
  • Meet established budgets and delivery schedules for assigned tasks.
