About The Position
At Steelhead, creativity doesn’t stop at the concept - it’s proven on the shop floor. We’re looking for a Senior CAD Detailer who can take bold design intent and turn it into clean, buildable, fabrication-ready drawings that move seamlessly from screen to shop to show floor. This role is for an experienced detailer who can independently own drawings from concept through fabrication, understands how their work impacts production and install, and takes pride in sending files to the shop they’d personally stand behind.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional CAD detailing experience in trade shows, events, fabrication, or architectural millwork
- AutoCAD proficiency (current version) — you’re fast, accurate, and confident in your files
- Strong fabrication knowledge with hands-on understanding of how things are actually built
- Hands-on experience generating and supporting CNC-ready files - you understand how your drawings hit the machine and the shop floor
- Ability to manage your own work, meet deadlines, and prioritize without constant oversight
- Clear communicator who collaborates well across creative, project, and production teams
- Calm, solution-oriented mindset in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments
- High standards for accuracy, constructability, and craftsmanship
Responsibilities
- Own the detailing process on complex trade show and experiential projects, from initial design intent through final build
- Translate creative concepts into accurate, efficient, fabrication-ready CAD drawings
- Produce detailed shop drawings, CNC-ready files, and field drawings that eliminate guesswork and rework
- Collaborate closely with Designers, Project Managers, and Production to align on scope, materials, methods, and timelines
- Support the shop and install teams with clear documentation and technical clarity
- Recommend materials, construction methods, and build strategies that improve efficiency and quality
- Serve as a trusted technical resource for build feasibility, detailing standards, and best practices
