The Senior Buyer has responsibility for purchasing activities, ensuring uninterrupted supply of direct and indirect materials and services including raw materials, packaging materials and OEM finished goods and services. This position’s primary objective is to acquire inbound materials and services on time and complete, from approved Suppliers at competitive costs as required to support the operations and improve the organization’s profitability.

  • Implement inventory control programs and procurement strategies such as VMI & KANBAN to achieve cash flow and inventory turns objectives without compromising material availability.
  • Manage formalized risk mitigation programs to reduce vulnerability of supply chain interruptions.
  • Develop effective supplier management relationships focused on availability, quality & cost.
  • Lead and/or participate on process improvement teams to drive cost savings and process improvements.
  • Drive internal procedure improvements and deliver training to those improvements.
  • Manage purchase requisitions and places purchase orders for materials, services and equipment as required to support customer demand.
  • Drives supplier performance metrics of quality and on time delivery.
  • Understand regulatory & market requirements and their impacts on the supply chain.
  • Proficient and effective implementation of change management.
  • Maintain a positive results-oriented attitude that promotes teamwork with peers, subordinates, & other support areas and suppliers while driving significant change.
  • Optimize utilization of ERP/MRP in an MTO & MTS environment.
  • Achieve financial goals of the Procurement Organization.
  • Supports schedule changes, customer quoting as required.
  • Support and help drive material cost reductions.
  • Support all corporate initiatives as required i.e. supplier reductions, material cost reductions, MSA's.
  • Support lean initiatives as required.
  • Mentor Junior Buyers.
  • BS in business, engineering, supply chain management or technical oriented field preferred.
  • APICS CPIM or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of MRP, IFS knowledge preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in Purchasing or Sourcing required.
  • Superior negotiation skills and understanding of contracts, supply agreements.
  • Strong knowledge of Government Procurement, the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), the Defense Federal Acquisition Supplement (DFARS) and Contractor Purchasing System Reviews (CPSR).
  • Strong ability to envision the optimal sourcing strategy and critical success factors internally and externally.
  • Must have excellent communication skills including listening, verbal and written.
  • Proven ability to support department mission by maintaining favorable relationships with peers, subordinates, suppliers and customers.
  • Must be flexible and adjust readily to new situations while effectively dealing with ambiguity, stress and uncertainty.
  • Strong customer focus with proven service-oriented attitude under all situations.
  • Knowledge of MS Office to include Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge and application of vlookups and pivot tables are a major plus.
  • Training Requirements: Marine Supply Chain New Buyer Training Program.
  • IFS Overview/Administration.
  • Hazardous Communications.
  • Quality Systems.
