Senior Business Intelligence/Data lead (Power BI) M Powered Strategies (MPS) is seeking a Senior Business Intelligence (BI) / Data Lead to support a federal consulting engagement focused on building a sustainable data and reporting capability for a globally distributed agency. This role will lead data assessment, data structuring, and Power BI dashboard development efforts. The ideal candidate combines strong hands-on technical skills with the ability to work directly with stakeholders to translate operational needs into practical, maintainable data solutions. This is not a pure engineering role — success requires comfort working with incomplete or inconsistent data, collaborating with non-technical stakeholders, and designing solutions that can be sustained by a small internal team.

Requirements

  • 5–10+ years of experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or data-focused consulting
  • Strong hands-on experience with Power BI (dashboard development, data modeling, DAX)
  • Experience working with Microsoft data environments (Excel, SharePoint, Power Platform; Azure experience a plus)
  • Experience working with incomplete, inconsistent, or decentralized data sources
  • Ability to translate business requirements into BI and reporting solutions
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience supporting U.S. federal clients or similar complex organizations

  • Experience with data governance, data quality, or data standardization efforts
  • Experience supporting operational, facilities, or asset management data environments
  • Experience working with geographically distributed or international organizations
  • Familiarity with SQL or other data transformation tools
  • Experience supporting training or knowledge transfer activities

Responsibilities

  • Lead data discovery, inventory, and profiling across multiple systems (e.g., SharePoint, Excel, enterprise systems)
  • Assess data quality and define approaches to improve usability and accessibility
  • Design and implement data structures and transformations to support reporting needs
  • Develop Power BI dashboards, including data models, DAX calculations, and visualizations
  • Translate business and operational requirements into actionable reporting logic
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define KPIs, metrics, and reporting views
  • Support development of a practical, maintainable data framework
  • Document data definitions, transformation logic, and dashboard structures
  • Support user validation and iterative refinement of dashboards
  • Contribute to training and knowledge transfer to enable client self-sufficiency
