About The Position

A-Max, a national personal lines insurance distributor, is looking for a Senior Business Insights and Data Analyst with a P&C insurance background to join the A-Max data team. The individual will be responsible for researching solutions, documenting requirements, communicating with business stakeholders, and manually testing implemented functionality. The Senior Business Insights and Data Analyst partners with business leaders, stakeholders, and IT teams to transform data into actionable insights that drive decision-making across insurance operations (quotes, policy, etc.), Marketing, HR, FP&A etc. This role is responsible for translating complex data into clear, compelling narratives, identifying trends and opportunities, and enabling data-driven strategies that improve operational efficiency, profitability, and risk management. Acting as a bridge between Business and IT, this role collaborates on requirements definition, source data identification, high-level data designs, data modeling artifacts, and advanced analysis. The Senior Business Insights and Data Analyst proactively identifies data quality issues, uncovers root causes, and recommends solutions that align with business objectives. The ideal candidate is a highly analytical problem-solver with strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and exceptional communication skills. This individual is comfortable engaging both technical and non-technical audiences and excels at influencing decisions through data-driven insights.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • 8–12 years of experience as a senior-level business data analyst or business insights analyst (not a pure BA role).
  • Strong understanding of Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance data
  • Advanced skills in data querying, analysis, and visualization tools (Excel, Tableau, SQL, or similar).
  • Experience developing KPIs, metrics frameworks, and analytical models that support operational and strategic decisions.
  • Knowledge of insurance regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Solid technical understanding of data architecture, data models, and database design.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, Python, and ETL frameworks.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and synthesize large datasets with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience working in Agile environments using tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Proven ability to influence outcomes through data-driven insights and storytelling.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with business stakeholders to solicit, analyze, and document reporting and analytical requirements, translating business questions into data-driven solutions.
  • Develop functional and analytical design documents, including process flows, data lineage, KPIs, metrics definitions, and business rules to support operational and strategic needs.
  • Serve as a liaison between business teams and data platform / IT teams, ensuring shared understanding of requirements, assumptions, and expected outcomes.
  • Collaborate with business and data platform teams to plan, prioritize, and refine backlog items based on business value, impact, and feasibility.
  • Create data specifications, source-to-target mappings, and validation rules for development teams; respond to data-related inquiries from business and technical partners.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends, anomalies, risks, and opportunities within P&C insurance data.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality, consistency, and usability, and support root cause analysis of data issues.
  • Translate analytical findings into clear insights, recommendations, and executive-ready visualizations that influence decision-making.
  • Help users understand the data ecosystem, metrics definitions, and reporting capabilities, fostering greater data literacy across Business and IT.
  • Communicate requirements and insights effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Partner with IT, data teams, and vendor partners to ensure accuracy, completeness, and traceability of requirements.
  • Create test plans, test cases, and validation scenarios based on business requirements.
  • Coordinate and execute UAT and QA validation, ensuring reports and data products meet business expectations.
  • Log, track, and communicate defects, data gaps, and risks through resolution.
  • Develop deep expertise in business processes, applications, and data flows to proactively identify improvement opportunities.
  • Provide regular status updates, insights, and recommendations to business stakeholders.
  • Actively support Agile delivery by helping remove impediments and contributing to successful sprint and release outcomes.
