About The Position

This role is based in our Newton, MA Office Position Summary: The Senior Business Analyst will play a strategic role in bridging the gap between business stakeholders and the Data Intelligence Team (Analytics, Reporting, and Governance). You will not just gather requirements; you will help shape our data strategy. You must understand business drivers to define requirements for data modeling, reporting, and self-service analytics. Crucially, this role acts as the "Architect of Knowledge" for the team. You will define what information needs to be captured to enable our "Documentation as Code" strategy, ensuring our Data Catalog and Central Data Hub are structured, accurate, and ready for AI-assisted ingestion. Qualified candidates will have a BS degree as well as 5+ years of relevant work experience.

Requirements

  • Education: BS or equivalent degree.
  • Experience: 5+ years of Business Analysis experience, specifically within Data, Analytics, or Business Intelligence teams.
  • Technical Environment: Comfortable working in a modern data environment (e.g., Cloud Data Warehouses, BI Tools).
  • Requirement Writing: Exceptional skills in writing detailed data requirements. You must be able to write requirements that are structured enough to be machine-readable/ingested by automation tools.
  • Governance: Experience with Data Catalogs (e.g., Alation, Collibra, or similar) and Business Glossaries.
  • SQL Skills: Good database skills to perform SQL queries to explore data, verify logic, and assist with debugging (Read-level proficiency required).
  • Documentation: Strong ability to create workflows, diagrams, and matrixes that explain complex data lineage.
  • Process: Experience working in a Lean/Agile environment, specifically adapting Agile specifically for Data/Analytics lifecycles.

Responsibilities

  • Requirements Gathering & Strategy: Work closely with business stakeholders to analyze reporting needs and gather precise requirements for data modeling and dashboarding projects.
  • Central Data Hub Enablement: Partner with Analytics Engineers to establish and curate a Central Data Hub. You will define the business taxonomy and access requirements, ensuring that data is organized in a way that is intuitive for business users to navigate
  • Data Catalog Stewardship: Own the "business definition" side of the Data Catalog. You will be responsible for maintaining the Business Glossary, ensuring that metrics like "Churn" or "Revenue" are defined consistently across the organization.
  • Documentation Architecture: Define the standard templates and required metadata fields for our data documentation. You will ensure that requirements are written in a structured format that allows our engineering team (and AI tools) to seamlessly convert them into technical documentation (Docs-as-Code).
  • Process Definition: Lead the effort to standardize how we capture logic. You won't need to write the code, but you must define the inputs required to make the automated documentation process successful.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Represent the Data Intelligence team via kickoff presentations and demos, translating technical data constraints into business-friendly language.
  • Data Quality & UAT: Define acceptance criteria for data accuracy and lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure reports and models match the business reality before release.
