About The Position

The Senior Building Maintenance Worker (Sr. BMW) under supervision, will perform semi-skilled tasks on a regular and continuing basis in one or more of the trades. While working independently or as a member of a crew, the Sr. BMW will support personnel in achieving goals through completion of either customer recharge or facilities related construction, maintenance, or repair work. Expected work includes, but not limited to: replace faulty sink or basin faucets; unclog toilets; perform graffiti removal of building exterior (windows, walls or other surfaces); light fixture maintenance work (through changing of ballast; replace spent lamps/lights); complete rough carpentry work such as; replace/repair cabinets and cabinet/closet doors, replace minor dry rot in floors and balconies, door frames, windows, screen doors; install safety bars on window and stairs, and install bulletin boards. Perform minor interior paint repairs, complete preparatory work for major painting projects and paint markings on asphalt or concrete floors or similar surfaces. Provide assistance to team of engineers, plumbers, painters, electricians, administrative, custodial, recycling, along with other work, as assigned and deemed necessary. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $28.50 - $38.36 (Hourly Rate). Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations
  • Two years of experience in the performance of semi-skilled building maintenance work, or one year as a Building Maintenance Worker; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Skill in reading Standard English text in order to follow through on written orders and carry out assignments
  • Knowledge of building safety requirements
  • Ability to perform routine lighting installation
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Must be able to interact professionally with all members of the campus community and the general public
  • Ability to use diplomacy to handle difficult situations such as complaints from customers
  • Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with vendors University personnel and staff
  • Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations; adding, subtracting, and multiplying and dividing
  • Ability to make accurate measurements
  • Must be able to provide clearly written and understandable reports and instructions
  • Ability to distinguish among colors
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors, in wet or humid weather, and in fluctuating temperatures
  • Ability to work under adverse situations and conditions e.g. confined spaces, dirty, noisy, etc
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and complete projects in a timely manner
  • Possession of a valid California Driver License
  • Fingerprinting, background check and certified by a physical examination
  • Skills and knowledge of building trades
  • Ability to review entry-level technical data and mechanical and electrical, specifications and drawings
  • Skill in reading project specifications, blue prints, and technical trade related manuals
  • Basic computer skills to operate a personal computer and learn the use of software programs for work management
