About The Position

We are looking for a Senior Bridge Engineer with a PennDOT focus as well as City of Philadelphia, SEPTA and/or Amtrak experience to join our Transportation Team. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our downtown Philadelphia office. Working on the roadway team at GFT offers the opportunity to engage in transformative projects that enhance transportation infrastructure and improve community connectivity. Whether working on highways and bridges or traffic engineering, our team excels in resilient, sustainable design and construction, delivering innovative solutions that address the complexities of modern, multimodal roadway systems and ensure safe, efficient, and reliable travel for all. A successful candidate will possess demonstrated experience in the analysis, design and detailed plan preparation of steel and concrete bridges, retaining wall design, as well as have an understanding of special provisions, scheduling, highway and geotechnical engineering. The desired candidate will be experienced with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation design policies, standards, and specifications and have proven project experience as a lead bridge/structures engineer. The candidate will serve as a senior engineer and bridge project/task manager for a variety of multidisciplinary projects. The candidate will manage new and existing clients, as well as mentor structural staff. The candidate will work with team members to maintain and improve current client relationships, as well as develop new clients. Position requires effective time management, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Successful candidate will be articulate with a professional presence and solid decision-making, planning and organizational skills. Responsibility for managing/overseeing scopes, schedules and budgets for projects performed with the bridge group and daily successful operation of all aspects of project delivery including customer interface.

Requirements

  • BS in Civil or Structural Engineering; Masters Preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in the analysis and design of concrete and structural steel bridges and related structures.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Well versed in PennDOT design policies, standards, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD and LFD Bridge Design Specifications.
  • Knowledge of AREMA preferred but not required.
  • Experience with Microstation and/or AutoCAD.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word for business applications.

Nice To Haves

  • PA PE required.
  • Experience in writing/development of project proposals and letters of interest preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design and prepare detailed plans for steel and concrete bridges and retaining walls.
  • Understand special provisions, scheduling, highway and geotechnical engineering.
  • Coordinate design activities and meetings between staff and other disciplines within GFT.
  • Serve as a senior engineer and bridge project/task manager for multidisciplinary projects.
  • Manage new and existing clients and mentor structural staff.
  • Maintain and improve current client relationships and develop new clients.
  • Manage and oversee scopes, schedules, and budgets for projects.
  • Ensure successful operation of all aspects of project delivery including customer interface.
