About The Position

As a Senior Biologist, you will serve as a crucial team member, actively involved in the management, leadership, and support of habitat restoration projects, biological surveys, impacts analysis, permitting, and environmental compliance. The ideal candidate will serve as a project manager or pivotal member of interdisciplinary teams, overseeing fieldwork, research, data collection, and reporting, and management efforts that support the growth and sustainability of our ecological restoration programs. This position offers the opportunity to combine scientific expertise with strategic program development to directly support the growth of ecological restoration initiatives. Candidates should demonstrate a balance of technical biological knowledge, project management capability, and leadership. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in an environmental field required (advanced degree preferred).
  • Approximately 10+ years of experience directly applicable to environmental consulting, field biology, and habitat restoration.
  • Proficient with MS Office & related software to complete reports, etc.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Proven experience in proposal development, and management of funded programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and staff, balancing competing priorities.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience drafting restoration and monitoring plans.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access), GIS-based applications, and data management systems.
  • Experience conducting biological surveys and monitoring for mitigation success criteria.
  • Strong independent research skills to identify funding opportunities and organize supporting information for decision-making.
  • Ability to manage a portfolio of active projects with competing deadlines.
  • Interest in environmental conservation, habitat restoration, and climate resilience.
  • Ability to travel regionally, including attendance at marketing events (approximately one per month).
  • Must have a valid driver license and excellent driving record.
  • Must be capable of performing job duties in outdoor environments and under varying weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • CRAM cert, OSHA 30 or 40 hour, QSP/QSD cert, arborist cert is a plus.
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own project delivery from kickoff through closeout, including schedule, budget, quality, and client satisfaction.
  • Demonstrate advanced technical expertise in botany, restoration, plant ecology, and ecosystems.
  • Develop, design, and implement habitat restoration, mitigation, and monitoring plans, including compliance tracking matrices.
  • Apply knowledge and experience with federal and state regulations, including CEQA/NEPA, CDFW Code, Clean Water Act, MBTA, and Endangered Species Act.
  • Exercise independent judgment in technical decision-making and problem-solving
  • Oversee implementation of mitigation requirements, coordinate with biologists and landscape crews, and collaborate with construction supervisors to maintain project schedules.
  • Lead and perform QA/QC review of reports, plans, and deliverables to ensure technical accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Mentor junior staff, providing training and guidance to support professional development.
  • Confidently interact with clients, regulators, contractors, and team members, emphasizing attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to travel throughout the state and regionally. In addition, as this position could involve field work in remote areas, the applicant must be able to travel to and work in rugged terrain during inclement weather.
  • Assist with administrative duties, such as training to meet project requirements.
  • Support business development efforts including proposal strategy, scope development, and client engagement
