About The Position

Keish Inc is seeking a Senior Biologist to help build our Biological Services Practice in the state of California. Responsibilities may include project management, business development, natural resource planning, leading surveys, and staff coordination. The position is to be based out of our San Jose offices. Keish offers flexible work locations (including working from home), flexible work hours and a robust compensation and benefits package. As a Senior Biologist, you will lead and coordinate biological desktop reviews for public and private projects. Requirements

  • Strong research, analysis, and reporting abilities.
  • Strong reviewing skills and QA/QC skills.
  • Detail-oriented and capable of managing and tracking large amounts of data.
  • Takes initiative, team-oriented professional with excellent written and communication skills.
  • Should be familiar with review and analysis of scientific data, maps, and drawings.
  • Provide support in delivering high quality work products to multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Ability to identify new project opportunities and build relationships with clients.
  • Strong skills as a self-starter, good client forward facing/communication skills.
  • Understanding of Federal and State agency requirements with special-status species.
  • Must be familiar with the federal and state Endangered Species Act, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and state and federal jurisdictional waters permitting and strategy.
  • Must have good driving record and valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to learn and grow into increased project management and supervisorial responsibilities.
  • Minimum of a BA/BS degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • At least ten (10) years of relevant experience and expertise

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field a plus.
  • GIS familiarity with Fieldmaps and Survey123.
  • Federal 10a1a permit and/or SCP for the following: California Red-legged Frog, California Giant Garter Snake, Foothill Yellow-legged frog, California Tiger Salamander, Western Pond Turtle, and Alameda Whipsnake
  • State and Federal Wetland Jurisdictional Delineation
  • Vegetation mapping and Rare Plant Species surveys experience
  • Fisheries experience such as writing Fish rescue plans, monitoring, and the like
  • CPUC experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Providing QA/QC review and maintaining a high standard for deliverables on biological reports, memos and other desktop reviews produced by junior biological staff and subcontractors.
  • Serve as project manager or technical lead on a variety of biological resource projects.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities.
  • Take initiative and resolve issues to assure client needs are addressed.
  • Identification and support on environmental permitting, on various projects located throughout California, and coordination of biological reports with clients.
  • Supporting multi-disciplinary project/program teams in all phases of the execution and delivery of utility operations and maintenance projects.
  • Understanding and knowledge of California flora/fauna will be needed, HCPs, permits, as well as understanding of typical construction activities on construction and/or vegetation removal projects.
  • Management of author teams to make sure they are submitting quality deliverables, on-time and on budget.
  • Drives compliance of safety policies and reporting requirements to ensure overall team safety.
  • Management and coordination of field biologists
