About The Position

This role offers the opportunity to design, develop, and scale production-grade bioinformatics pipelines that support large-scale genomic and clinical data processing. You will lead efforts to translate validated research workflows into automated, cloud-based production systems, ensuring high reliability, reproducibility, and efficiency. The position involves close collaboration with product and development teams to optimize pipeline performance, implement automation, and maintain secure high-throughput data transfers across cloud environments. You will contribute to long-term roadmap planning and drive technical improvements that accelerate scientific discovery. This role requires a combination of strong software engineering skills, deep bioinformatics knowledge, and the ability to influence technical decisions across interdisciplinary teams.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or related quantitative field.
  • 5+ years of experience developing and operating bioinformatics or large-scale data processing pipelines in production.
  • Proficiency in a production programming language, such as Python.
  • Extensive experience working with AWS or comparable cloud platforms.
  • Hands-on experience designing scalable, automated systems with minimal manual intervention.
  • Strong expertise in workflow orchestration tools such as WDL, Nextflow, or Snakemake.
  • Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and cloud-native infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices, including CI/CD, unit testing, and test-driven development.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical direction across scientific and engineering stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and a collaborative team player.

  • Architect and implement automation initiatives to improve pipeline performance, scalability, and turnaround time.
  • Design and manage secure, high-throughput data transfer solutions across cloud platforms.
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement optimizations for efficiency, cost, and resource utilization.
  • Contribute to the long-term strategy and roadmap for pipeline evolution and automation improvements.
  • Collaborate with product, development, and scientific teams to ensure smooth delivery of bioinformatics solutions.
