About The Position

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility is home to the Knapp Cardiac Care Center—an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility—as well as a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. Our Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries. The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk has multiple outpatient sites, including an outpatient wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices. We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior BioMedical Technician - BioMed - Full Time - Biomed - Suffolk - - 03:00 PM-11:00 PM Monday-F. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for installing, inspecting, and performing both corrective and preventive maintenance on all levels of Patient Care, Diagnostic, Monitoring, Surgical, and Therapeutic (PCDMST) medical devices.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Biomedical, Electrical or Electronic Engineering/Technology.
  • Minimum of 7 years hospital based experience in Surgical and Critical Care areas or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical, Electrical or Electronics Engineering/Technology.
  • CBET Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on all levels of PCDMST devices that are owned and utilized by the Surgical Services, Anesthesia, Critical Care and Respiratory Departments.
  • Ensures that preventative maintenance is performed on a timely basis, with each device being inspected on the appropriate schedule.
  • In collaboration with the Operations Manager, reviews and schedules the maintenance of individual devices to balance the workload throughout the year, avoiding peak periods or heavily loaded months.
  • Carries out maintenance, testing, and calibration procedures per department protocol and/or manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Attends all required work related training.
  • Installs medical equipment in coordination with the user department and Facilities Management department.
  • Participates in the installation of new patient systems by providing guidance related to expertise.
  • Provides technical guidance and support to other biomedical technicians, and assists the department's management in the oversight of biomedical technicians in PMs and repairs.
  • Assists in training new and existing staff in the performance of preventive and corrective maintenance of devices, in accordance with departmental procedures and policies.
  • Records all service information on the appropriate maintenance checklists; and properly tags the unit as per department policies regarding documentation.
  • Keeps the user department and the Clinical Engineering managers informed of incomplete repairs and equipment waiting on parts or requiring further troubleshooting.
