About The Position

POSITION OVERVIEW Reporting to the US Benefits Manager, the Senior Benefits Specialist serves as an advanced subject matter expert responsible for the administration, analysis, and optimization of Magna’s US Benefits programs. This role acts as the operational lead by consulting and advising Magna’s Divisional representatives on complex escalations, supporting compliance initiatives, vendor management and process improvement. This position will be responsible for performing detailed audits to ensure governance of the plan and analysis of benefits programs to enhance and optimize program performance and sustainability.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of previous benefits and/or human resources experience with a strong focus on analytics, reporting, and benefits administration
  • Excellent computer knowledge with advanced skill in MS Office
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal with a strong focus on customer service
  • Ability to maintain organization and multi-task amongst fast paced environment with competing deadlines
  • Ability to take own initiative and work independently and seek proactive solutions to problems
  • High level of attention to detail, accuracy and confidentiality required
  • Strong analytical skills and adept at analyzing data and formatting reports
  • Able to handle/maintain confidential information
  • Detailed and deadline oriented
  • University/College degree in Business, Human Resources or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in global organizations and/or automotive/industrial manufacturing environment would be considered an asset
  • Experience with Workday preferred
  • Professional certification in Employee Benefits or Human Resources Management preferred. (CEBS, SHRM, PHR, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Serve as day-to-day operational liaison with major benefit vendors (e.g., Medical, Dental, Vision, Disability, Life, HSA/FSA,) including compliance tracking, timely issue resolution, and operational accuracy.
  • Provides analysis, cost projections and recommendations to support the development of benefit plan management strategies and products.
  • Perform financial analysis including developing pricing and employee contribution strategies, modelling plan design alternatives, cost savings and funding strategies.
  • Engage in benchmarking, reviewing and recommending benefit design changes, renewals or vendor changes to existing benefit programs through data analysis and market research.
  • Conduct regular audits of benefit enrollment data, dependent eligibility and vendor file feeds.
  • Coordinate with HRIS, Payroll, IT and vendors to troubleshoot and resolve file feed issues, data discrepancies, and system upgrades.
  • Regularly review and update benefits documentation to ensure information is clear, concise and up to date.
  • Continually monitor the US environment to proactively identify trends that could impact Magna’s benefit management strategies.
  • Identify opportunities and recommend enhancements to ensure Magna’s US benefits program is innovative, competitive and contributes to ensuring plan sustainability.
  • Provide coaching and assistance to Magna’s Divisions on all escalated benefit related inquiries with investigations to resolve complex issues (e.g., disability cases, health cost analysis, specialty Rx, claim denials, etc.).
  • Support the annual Benefits Open Enrollment process.
  • Support ongoing learning by developing training and education materials and facilitating benefits training sessions.
  • Participate in and support additional Total Reward projects as needed.
