Senior Behavioral Scientist

Surgo HealthWashington, DC

About The Position

Surgo Health is a Public Benefit Corporation building the world’s most comprehensive and insightful AI-powered data platform that reveals the why behind people’s behaviors. We uncover the unseen drivers of health - people’s beliefs, barriers, and behaviors - and transform that intelligence into scalable products that enable healthcare organizations to drive impact, reduce costs, and advance inclusion. From improving clinical trial design to optimizing care delivery and public health strategies, our solutions help decision-makers act on what truly shapes health outcomes. By revealing the human side of healthcare, we’re making it more personal, precise, and effective - for everyone. We are hiring an applied, data-savvy behavioral scientist who wants to shape how the U.S. healthcare system understands human behavior at scale. Your mission is to continue to build Surgo’s foundational behavioral data using novel technologies and methodologies. You will help push this data to the next level by identifying where new behavioral signals are needed, innovating how drivers are modeled and packaged, and ensuring they translate into real client value. You will work closely with research scientists and engineers to turn behavioral theory into high-resolution, person-level insights embedded directly in our data and products.

Requirements

  • Are relentlessly curious about how to better measure and analyze human health behavior.
  • Have a PhD with a publication record.
  • Have 3+ years of professional experience in roles where you collected and/or analyzed behavioral data.
  • Are deeply comfortable with data, including analytics and statistics (we use Python, SQL, and R).
  • Have a passion for action, results, and impact: you want to move fast, quickly pivot when needed, and build as part of a startup.
  • Have the ability to build from the ground up, are eager to own your work, and can wear multiple hats.
  • Are a strong communicator that can work effectively with engineers, scientists, and management.
  • Location: This role is based out of Washington, D.C. or London, UK. We currently have a hybrid policy (2 days in-office; 3 days remote). Some travel may be required for on-sites.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver end-to-end data collection, including design of new surveys and other methodologies.
  • Transform how our behavioral data is curated, modeled, and operationalized to solve client problems.
  • Create compelling data offerings for specific indications or behaviors.

  • Work closely with a team of data scientists, engineers, and business development to shape the roadmap for our data foundations.
  • Identify alternative data that sheds light on what drives health behaviors
