About The Position

The Senior Behavioral Health Therapist (LCSW-S, LPC-S, or LMFT-S) will work as part of an interdisciplinary, team-based program that cares for patients enrolled in the Texas Child Health Access Through Telemedicine (TCHATT) program at UT Health Austin Dell Medical School. TCHATT provides telemedicine or telehealth programs to school districts to help identify and assess the behavioral health needs of children and adolescents and provide access to mental health services. The Senior Behavioral Health Therapist will provide mental health therapy to children, adolescents, and family members and oversee other counselors providing TCHATT services. This position includes providing structured clinical supervision to support the professional development and licensure progression of LPC-As, LMSWs, and LMFT-As in Texas. In accordance with state regulations, the supervisor must hold the appropriate supervisory credential: an LPC-S to supervise LPC-As, an LCSW-S to supervise LMSWs, or an LMFT-S to supervise LMFT-As. This is a state funded position sponsored by the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium (TCMHCC). TCMHCC was created by the 86th Texas Legislature to leverage the expertise and capacity of the health-related institutions of higher education to address urgent mental health challenges and improve the mental health care system in this state in relation to children, adolescents, and perinatal women. This position has an end date of 8/31/2026, but may be renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward goals. Funding is expected to continue. A flexible working arrangement agreement will be required upon offer. The Senior Behavioral Health Therapist will join our growing multi-disciplinary team to conduct behavioral and mental health assessments, treatment planning, brief interventions, and interdisciplinary team consultation as needed, in compliance with standard regulations, policies, and procedures. This position will provide mental health therapy to children, adolescents, and family members and oversee other counselors providing Texas Child Health Access Through Telemedicine (TCHATT) services and will also lead trainings and use data to inform programming. The Senior Behavioral Health Therapist will have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients and colleagues, work independently with a strong attention to detail, and effectively communicate through both oral and written communication while possessing a commitment to professional ethical and practice standards.

Requirements

  • Licensed as an LCSW-S, LPC-S, LMFT-S, or equivalent licensed clinician in Texas.
  • Three years of post-degree clinical experience working with children, adolescents, and family systems.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary team with a variety of other health care professionals (i.e., physicians, psychologists, social workers, nurses, physician assistants, physical therapists, dietitians, pharmacists, medical assistants).
  • Strong technological, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in electronic systems including, but not limited to, Google Suite, Trayt, Slack, Athena, and Calendly.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of post-degree clinical experience working with children, adolescents, and family systems in high-demand outpatient or inpatient mental health settings.
  • Experience providing school-based mental health services.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive, compassionate, and professional attitude when engaging with patients and their family members.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and provides diagnostic impressions.
  • Formulates treatment plan according to evidence based practices and protocol.
  • Conducts individual, family and group therapy sessions as needed.
  • Monitors patients for suicidal/homicidal intent and ensures patient safety if necessary.
  • Undertakes crisis intervention, as needed.
  • Participates in any supervision, feedback, and quality assurance checks.
  • Maintains client records and performs data entry as required by protocol.
  • Completes documentation in the clinical record related to interaction with individuals-served, families and other service providers in an accurate and timely manner, and in accordance with professional ethics and with both federal and state regulations.
  • Provides clinical supervision under a supervision plan with the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council to at least one team member pursuing their independent practice licensure if appropriate given staffing at the time, in accordance with licensure requirements (LPC-S for LPC-As, LCSW-S for LMSWs, LMFT-S for LFMT-As).
  • Regularly provides individual and/or group supervision and participates in training to support supervisee.
  • Reviews documentation and closes supervisee’s session notes.
  • Provides feedback and recommendations regarding documentation, as needed.
  • Serves as a clinical lead and works closely with the social workers and/or professional counselors on staff to provide mentorship, support, and consultation, as needed.
  • Provides guidance, direction, debriefing, clinical staffing, and support to staff, including care coordinators.
  • May help with coverage, staffing, and workflow optimization.
  • Provides expert care for patients with co-occurring physical and mental health conditions, while also addressing their psychosocial factors.
  • Applies clinical experience, condition-specific training, and certifications to contribute to patients’ improved healthcare outcomes.
  • Participates in meetings, continuing education opportunities, and academic and research opportunities to optimize patient best practice and interdepartmental collaboration.
  • Attends appropriate training workshops, interdisciplinary meetings, and client staffing as required.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
