About The Position

Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized, passionate technician to join our powertrain team and help build flight-critical components for our VTOL electric aircraft. The Joby Aviation team is made up of extremely talented, hardworking, proactive, and hands-on individuals, operating in a very fast-paced and rewarding environment. Come help us build advanced electrical powertrains as we try to make a mark in the transportation industry. This is a full-time, onsite position in San Carlos, CA.

Requirements

  • 4-5+ years of experience on high voltage battery systems.
  • Experience with manual and machine shop tools such as a mill, lathe or welder (laser, TIG, MIG).
  • Experience soldering and integrating circuit board assemblies.
  • Knowledge of bonding processes, tools and materials.
  • Ability to work in hazmat PPE for extended periods .
  • Experience working with hazardous materials and following safety guidelines for handling battery components.
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment and maintain high standards of work.
  • Team oriented attitude.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with industrial environments and procedures.
  • Experience working in a production environment.
  • Post-secondary education or training in a technical field.
  • Knowledge of additive and subtractive manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the Battery Engineering team to build and test battery systems.
  • Documenting work and creating work instructions.
  • Working on high voltage systems.
  • Building test articles, fixtures and reworking parts/assemblies.
  • Applying sensors and thermocouples to test articles
  • Building systems enclosures for test stands.
  • Cleaning and organization of battery build/test lab space.
  • Support battery thermal event testing and test space cleaning.
  • Handling, packaging, labeling, and disposing of hazardous battery materials in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Discharging and disposal of battery cells.
  • Maintaining stock of supplies and requesting resupply as needed
