About The Position

Identifies complex opportunities and gaps within a product or multiple functional areas. Understands and starts to build experiences across multiple groups or divisions. Partners with relevant teams to design architecture and integrated customer solutions to complex technical needs for a product or multiple functional areas. Defines the program(s) goals and prioritization for various capabilities, features, or solutions for multiple products or functional areas they own. Defines success criteria and performance metrics for programs or integrated systems. Creates relationships and rhythm to drive orchestration and integration efforts with internal teams and external partners and/or stakeholders to develop and implement processes for large and complex cross functional programs, solutions, services, or integrated systems across multiple functional areas. Collaborates with relevant technical and business teams to contribute, prioritize, and deliver on the roadmap for a product or multiple functional areas. Breaks down the program into projects and ongoing operations. Partner with contributing teams and stakeholders to collect performance metrics, monitor and report on progress, and derive deep insights that lead to productive courses of action to improve development, iteration, and implementation of a product or multiple functional areas. As a Sr. Project Manager for Data Center Building Automation Systems (BAS) at Microsoft, you will be a pivotal leader in the Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team. You will be responsible for the global end-to-end execution, deployment, and commissioning of cutting-edge BAS controls within our global network of hyperscale data centers owned. This dynamic role also requires a "multiple hats" approach, where you will additionally support and drive the end-to-end execution of critical telemetry systems across our lease sites. This demands deep technical knowledge of critical environments, strong project management skills, time management and ability to juggle between different time zones if needed and to drive complex projects from conception through to operational handover, ensuring safety, quality, schedule, and budget objectives are met across both owned and leased facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience, 2+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in project management within the building automation, HVAC controls, or a related mission-critical environment field (data center experience strongly preferred).
  • Experience in managing large-scale construction or infrastructure projects from inception to completion.
  • Experience with open protocols like BACnet, Modbus, and platforms such as Niagara, Desigo CC, Metasys, WebCtrl or EBO
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage diverse responsibilities and switch focus between owned facility projects and lease site execution needs.

Responsibilities

  • End-to-End Project Leadership (Owned Sites): Lead and manage all phases of BAS controls projects from planning, design reviews, sub-contractor management, proposal reviews and installation to commissioning (L2-IST), issue management and close-out.
  • Telemetry Execution (Lease Sites): Support and drive the E2E execution and deployment of telemetry infrastructure within third-party lease sites, ensuring seamless data acquisition and integration with Microsoft's monitoring platforms. This involves managing unique lease site constraints and coordination challenges.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Serve as the primary point of contact for internal functional teams, construction managers, vendors, and subcontractors, ensuring clear communication and alignment across all project aspects for both owned and leased sites.
  • Budget & Schedule Management: Develop, monitor, and optimize project budgets and schedules, proactively identifying potential risks and developing mitigation strategies to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery across all assignments.
  • Technical Oversight: Provide expert technical guidance and oversight for the design, configuration, programming, and installation of BAS and electrical SCADA systems, ensuring all systems meet Microsoft's rigorous standards and industry regulations.
  • Quality Assurance & Commissioning: Implement rigorous Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) processes and coordinate commissioning activities to validate system performance and ensure seamless integration and operational handover.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Oversee the development and management of all project documentation, including submittals, MOPs (Methods of Procedure), commissioning plans, as-built records, and close-out packages.
  • Executive Reporting & Analytics: Develop and present executive-level reports utilizing data and analytics derived from project performance and system metrics. Communicate key insights, project status, risks, and performance trends to senior leadership to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Tooling and Automation Expertise: Leverage expertise in project management tools and automation platforms to streamline workflows, improve efficiency, and drive process improvements across the entire project lifecycle, from design to deployment and operational support.
  • Safety & Compliance: Champion a culture of safety, ensuring strict adherence to all safety and security policies and procedures on site, and participating in root cause analysis for any incidents.
