About The Position

We are the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), a union of about 2 million diverse members in healthcare, the public sector, and property services. This position is part of the Union Strength team with overall responsibility for contract campaigns and bargaining support for locals. This role support may also train and teach locals in bargaining techniques and contract campaign best practices.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience demonstrating progressively increasing mastery in the field of organizing workers and unions and a minimum of five (5) years of negotiations especially in labor including but not limited to first contracts and other contract campaigns.
  • Proficiency in proven strategies for union membership growth, including in how to build on the connection between racial justice and membership growth
  • Leadership development and innovation tools and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate racial justice and anti-racist principles into policy development, staff management, and coalition-building.
  • Management of multiple priorities and projects in a timely manner
  • Collaboration with staff from multiple positions, and with elected leaders
  • Development of diverse, inclusive, high-performing teams
  • Supervision of senior level staff
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Exercise leadership and good judgement in sensitive situations
  • Knowledge of union systems, structures, and cultures.
  • Practical skills and knowledge of leadership development that is rooted in equity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Support local unions' collective bargaining efforts and contract campaigns.
  • Train and develop leaders in bargaining practice of collective bargaining.
  • Craft strategies and training programs for local union leaders related to collective bargaining, first contracts, and contract campaigns.
  • Planning and delivery of training programs to meet local unions.
  • Maintain a knowledge of understanding first contract campaigns and best practices.
  • Help create leadership development initiatives for local union leaders.
  • Perform additional duties as needed in alignment with the Hub's mission and goals.
