Senior Backend Engineer (Data-Focused)

About The Position

This role sits at the core of how our systems work. You’ll build the backend services that power our product and the data pipelines that drive decision-making across growth, operations, and patient experience. This is not a traditional backend role — you’ll work across APIs, databases, and data systems to ensure we can reliably capture, process, and use data at scale. You’ll work closely with founders and cross-functional teams to turn data into real product and business outcomes.

Requirements

5+ years of backend engineering experience (Node.js or Python), with demonstrated ownership of production systems
Experience building or owning data pipelines / ETL workflows in production environments
Deep experience with SQL and relational databases (Postgres strongly preferred)
Strong understanding of system design and performance at scale
Experience working in fast-paced, startup environments with high ownership

Nice To Haves

Experience with event-driven systems or streaming (Kafka, Pub/Sub, etc.)
Familiarity with tools like Airflow, dbt, or modern data stacks
Experience supporting analytics, growth, or experimentation teams
Cloud experience (AWS)
Exposure to data-heavy applications

Responsibilities

Build and maintain backend services and APIs that power our platform
Design and own data pipelines (ingestion, transformation, storage)
Model and structure data to support product features and internal tools
Work with large datasets to support analytics, experimentation, and automation
Optimize database performance (queries, indexing, scaling)
Contribute to system architecture as we scale (services, data flow, reliability)
Partner with product, growth, and operations to solve data-driven problems
Improve observability, logging, and data reliability across systems
