We are the eBay Backbone Team within the Global Connectivity Services (GCS) group and Global Technology (GT) team. The Backbone Team is primarily responsible for how eBay connects to the internet and how our data center deployments connect to one another. Our team has a foundational role in the operation of any large-scale internet-based organization. Our primary responsibility is to design, build, operate, and secure the core network infrastructure—the high-capacity, high-reliability systems that carry internet traffic around the world. You will help expand and optimize a global backbone network applying knowledge of scripting, traffic engineering, Internet routing and peering.

Requirements

  • Prefer at least 9+ years' experience supporting backbone or large Enterprise network
  • Proven track record with Juniper hardware/software, MX platforms preferred (flexible)
  • Demonstrated ability developing sophisticated scripting for complex network build and support functions
  • Strong understanding of the TCP/IP stack and understanding of Internet routing and peering relationships
  • Expertise with routing protocols like BGP, OSPF, ISIS
  • Experience and knowledge with traffic engineering protocols like MPLS, RSVP, SRLG
  • Knowledge of flow export (IPFIX in particular) is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills and ability to influence cross-group to get results

Responsibilities

  • Lead projects independently to upgrade, optimize and improve global backbone network
  • Build scripting and templates to perform network functions like add/edit/delete of services, performing device maintenance, performing tech refresh, etc.
  • Generate and load configuration to routers for new WAN, Transit and Peering connections following established organizational change procedures
  • Identify potential POP locations and Internet Exchanges that will provide improved connectivity for customers based on traffic data
  • Participate in capacity planning on WAN, Internet and internal customer connections
  • Collaborate with other senior-level engineers and management on ongoing network strategy and provide mentorship for junior engineers in the organization
