AVER is seeking a Senior Azure Oracle Cloud Platform Engineer to manage and operate a third-party DBaaS control plane deployed within Azure environment in support of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This role is heavily focused on Azure cloud infrastructure, AKS/Kubernetes, Linux OS operations, and SRE-style troubleshooting, with responsibility spanning both control plane and data plane. The candidate should also possess foundational Oracle database skills to support platform-level operations and troubleshooting of databases in a secure, regulated federal environment. Requirements

  • 10+ years of hands-on Microsoft Azure expertise, particularly AKS, networking, storage accounts, IAM, and monitoring
  • Expertise with Oracle database management and administration to understanding of Oracle architecture and processes, perform startup/shutdown, health checks, and basic troubleshooting
  • Must have knowledge of backups, HA/DR concepts, and patching workflows
  • Solid Kubernetes experience (AKS preferred): cluster operations, upgrades, logging, and troubleshooting
  • Expert Linux OS skills (RHEL / Oracle Linux): system administration, patching, hardening, and performance analysis
  • Experience performing OS patching and maintenance for production database VMs
  • SRE-oriented troubleshooting skills, with the ability to analyze issues across multiple layers of the stack
  • Strong understanding of Azure identity and access management, including Managed Identities, RBAC, and service principals
  • Experience with network security design in Azure, including private endpoints, service endpoints, firewall rules, and network segmentation
  • Working knowledge of container security, image scanning, and Kubernetes RBAC
  • Experience troubleshooting storage performance issues (Azure Disk, Files, Blob, and CSI drivers)
  • Familiarity with Oracle backup and recovery tooling (RMAN or equivalent)
  • Experience supporting systems subject to FedRAMP, FISMA, or NIST 800-53 controls
  • Ability to support audit activities, evidence collection, and security assessments
  • Familiarity with security hardening standards
  • Experience working with security teams on vulnerability remediation and POA&M tracking
  • Understanding of encryption at rest and in transit, key management, and certificate handling in Azure
  • Strong documentation and customer-facing communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or at least 4+ years of hands on relevant experience in lieu of a degree
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government clearance (Public Trust)
  • This role supports a government agency which requires U.S. citizenship

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating hosted control planes or BDaaS platforms in customer-managed Azure environments
  • Experience with Oracle Exadata, RAC, or Data Guard (operational exposure)
  • Prior experience supporting DHS or other civilian federal agencies
  • Exposure to Zero Trust Architecture concepts in cloud environments
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or serving as a technical lead
  • Relevant desired certifications-- Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), Oracle Cloud or Oracle DBA certifications
  • Exposure to DBaaS platforms and multi-tenant cloud architectures

Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day operations of a third-party DBaaS product control plane deployed in Azure GovCloud
  • Manage and troubleshoot Azure AKS clusters, including cluster health, upgrades, networking, and storage integrations
  • Operate Azure components such as VNets, subnets, storage accounts, managed identities, NSGs, load balancers, and monitoring services
  • Provide hands-on Kubernetes administration: pod/service troubleshooting, configuration management, scaling, and observability
  • Perform Linux OS administration across control plane and database VMs, including security hardening, performance tuning, and troubleshooting
  • Execute and manage OS patching for database VMs, aligned with maintenance windows and federal change management processes
  • Act as an SRE-style escalation point, debugging issues end-to-end across control plane, platform services, and data plane
  • Support basic Oracle database operations required for platform health and issue resolution
  • Partner with DHS security and infrastructure teams to ensure compliance, audit readiness, and secure operations
  • Lead root-cause analysis, produce customer-ready postmortems, and drive reliability improvements
