About The Position

MTSI is seeking a Senior Avionics Systems Engineer to support development and integration of aircraft avionics and subsystems into a large commercial derivative aircraft. The individual will decompose user capability requirements into system and subsystem specifications, evaluate technical maturation and risk reduction processes and results, provide design reviews, plan, execute and evaluate development, integration and test results, provide specification verification and system validation assessments, identify deficiency root cause and evaluate corrective actions, evaluate and support manufacturing capability development, fielding, sustainment and modernization planning and engineering support. The individual will work with the System Program Office (SPO) Chief Engineer, program managers, vendors, platform users, cybersecurity experts, logisticians, testers, and other system and subsystem engineers to execute a fast paste acquisition program of critical national defense capabilities. The individual must have significant experience with the USAF systems engineering process, avionics systems and subsystems and be able to communicate effectively to enable successful execution of the SPO’s mission. The individual will work on-base at WPAFB OH with limited remote support options.

Requirements

  • Experience in design and troubleshooting of Avionics subsystems such systems as Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS), Transponders, Traffic Collision Alert System (TCAS), Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS), Very High Frequency (VHF), Ultra High Frequency (UHF), High Frequency (HF) Radios, Distance Measuring Equipment (DME), Multi-Mode Receivers (MMR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR).
  • Working knowledge of NAV displays, data buses (MIL-STD-1553B and ARINC-429), test planning and conduct, sustainment and operations covering airborne vehicles’ avionics subsystems and FAA and Air Force airworthiness/certification process and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of technical documents, determining sufficiency for demonstrating compliance with specifications and airworthiness means of compliance, summarizing findings, recommended changes, and communicating all results to program offices.
  • Performed engineering evaluation of prime and subcontractor recommendations for operational and support issues including but not limited to evaluations of Engineering Change Notices, Engineering Change Proposals, Contract Change Proposal, FAA bulletins, modification proposals, program risk, and related documents.
  • 9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience.
  • Must possess an active SECRET security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Notices of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRMs) and Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Alternate Methods of Compliance (AMOCs) for AD’s. as well as development of STC packages.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technological/trade-off assessments of proposed designs/modifications as well as translating user requirements into system requirements, which will be used to design, develop, fabricate, test and evaluate systems, subsystems.
  • Provide support to produce or review products that include the following: technical evaluations/plans; engineering studies, reports, and analyses; and acquisition strategies/plans such as: System Specification; RFPs; Test Plans, Test Procedures, Test Acceptance Procedures (ATPs); and Spectrum Supportability Determinations.
  • Support as necessary project team meetings, working groups, and reviews as needed, such as: SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, TCM, TIM, FCA, PCA, PMR, and other meetings/working groups/reviews as applicable.
  • Assist in analyzing equipment and software deficiencies; make recommendations for equipment and software deficiency corrections; and assist in developing, integrating, and testing equipment and software deficiency solutions.
  • Support systems analysis to include, but not be limited to, avionics system design/design feasibility and state-of-the-art assessment and developing systems/subsystem specifications and provide technical advice on the path forward to installation of the new hardware and software into the system and subsystems
  • Support and assist performance effectiveness, cost effectiveness, cost performance, life-cycle cost, producibility, maintainability, supportability, reliability, technical and schedule risk assessments, and scheduling trade-off studies.
