Job Summary To conceive and introduce new precision automated assembly lines and material handling for medical device manufacturing, we’re looking to add a Senior Automation Project Engineer - Medical Devices, based at our state of the art, 24x7, high-volume Buffalo Grove, IL manufacturing site . (Note: Internal Job Title is "Senior Automation Project Engineer") What a typical day looks like: Understands customer requirements and leads development of effective manufacturing processes and automation solutions. Manages medium and larger automation projects in a medical device environment. Develops and presents project business and financial justifications. Responsible for leading the specification, engineering and implementation of new material handling and Assembly automation equipment in a medical device manufacturing environment. Responsible for leading the conception, specification or design and implementation of modifications and improvements of existing material handling and assembly automation equipment in a medical device environment. Lead the collaboration of key stakeholders to develop requirements and specifications for new equipment or modification/improvements to existing equipment. Manage and coordinate equipment vendors starting with design through SAT. Manage validation for medical device assembly systems, including validation execution. Manage the development of technical manuals, drawings, models, training documentation, preventative maintenance plans and troubleshooting guides for automated equipment and automated processes. Troubleshooting support during machine commissioning and ramp up, as well as occasional support of existing operations in areas where Subject Matter Expert is needed. Lead root cause analysis & drive for permanent corrective actions. Work with vendors, plant maintenance and reliability engineering to ensure all new and updated automation equipment has appropriate spare parts, and a robust Preventive Maintenance plan.

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or mechatronics.
  • Requires a minimum of 8 - 10 years of medical device engineering experience related to automated assembly.
  • Automation project management experience.
  • Medical device manufacturing experience, including validation, change control and documentation skills.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software program to create schematics or drawings.
  • Proficient in MS Project or other planning software.
  • Previous experience with several of the following technologies: pneumatics, conveyors, variety of sensors, robots, AMR, vision inspection systems, HMI, PLC and SCADA system Integration experience with custom automation or turn-key solutions
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external functional teams verbally, in writing, and via presentations.
  • Working knowledge of machine safety requirements and regulations.
  • Lean Six Sigma/DRM Green Belt .
