About The Position

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Automation Engineer to join Protein Expression Sciences and lead efforts in managing and advancing automated systems to support VelociMab antibody discovery and production cell line development. This role is pivotal in driving strategic innovation and enhancing the efficiency of automated workflows critical to scientific breakthroughs. As a Senior Automation Engineer, the candidate will take ownership of designing and implementing complex automation solutions, integrating cutting-edge technologies, and optimizing processes to address evolving scientific challenges. This position requires a high degree of technical expertise, leadership, and the ability to independently manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is not only passionate about automation technologies but also adept at developing scalable solutions, mentoring team members, and collaborating across diverse scientific and engineering functions to achieve organizational goals.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Science, Engineering, or a related field with 8+ years of experience in automation engineering.
  • Direct experience programming liquid handlers, such as Hamilton STAR/Vantage or Dynamic Devices Lynx, is required.
  • Expertise in scheduling software, such as Cellario or Green Button Go, is essential.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, technical depth in laboratory automation, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams are critical for success in this role.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with LIMS/Benchling integration with automated platforms is highly preferred, along with advanced proficiency in programming languages such as C#, Python, or Java.
  • Additionally, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience designing and implementing complex integrated system and optimizing automation workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and troubleshoot automation methods for standalone and integrated systems, including Hamilton Robotics, Dynamic devices, and HighRes Biosolutions.
  • Coordinate the testing and deployment of new automation methods with scientists.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with automated systems and existing methods.
  • Train new users on equipment operation, create SOPs, and provide ongoing technical support when needed.
  • Oversee maintenance and preventative maintenance (PM) on all automated equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records and promptly communicate automation-related issues to relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure the proper storage of samples in the automated biobank and oversee the continuous maintenance and management of the biobanks.
  • Contribute innovative solutions to increase efficiency and decrease costs, while continuing to improve sample throughput and data quality.
  • Work with scientists to identify unmet needs and new automation solutions to address them.
