Our Commercial Aircraft Group (CAG) is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer. You will report to the Advanced Manufacturing Manager and be located in East Aurora, New York. You will design, develop and support cost effective manufacturing controls and automation systems. Your primary responsibility will include collaborating on the concurrent development of manufacturing processes for a new product line under development and leading the development and procurement of automated solutions for identified applications. These automated systems could include robotics, ASRS, part traceability systems, assembly systems, AI enabled inspection, and other systems as business needs and opportunities are identified.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering; Controls training exercises and have passed the Subversion Assessment; Engineering, or a related field with five (5) years related experience working on manufacturing systems/automation for a discrete parts manufacturing company.;
  • Experience working in a discrete part manufacturing industry
  • Strong understanding of industrial controls and systems integration.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to apply engineering principles to the design and manufacture of equipment
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as ability to independently function in technical capacities
  • Travel approximately 10-20%, ability to travel domestic and/or international

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in relevant programming languages such as PLC programming.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) in designing fixtures.

Responsibilities

  • Define requirements for automated equipment and tooling
  • Concept, develop, test and document solutions for assembly and test fixtures/equipment. Collaborate with other team members so that they meet functional requirements and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Document design as necessary through specifications, technical reports, etc.
  • Conduct performance evaluations of equipment and fixtures and adjust designs as necessary to optimize efficiency and reliability.
  • Experience in developing solutions to be integrated into lean value streams and cells.
  • Experience and knowledge working with the APQP process; ability to collaborate with others to develop DFMEA's and PFP's and lead creation of PFMEA's and PCP's for equipment/processes you are responsible for developing
  • Stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements that can enhance automation and fixture design and functionality.
  • Manage automated equipment projects by developing schedules, cost estimates, design development activities, documentation, verification/validation activities, etc.
  • Coordinate work efforts with other team members. Provide technical leadership in areas of responsibility.
  • Document development through verbal and written status reports
  • Communicate project status to team members and management
  • Provide solutions in technical challenges and implement improvements
