  • Perform inspections, maintenance, diagnosis, repair, performance testing and operational checks on emergency response vehicles, automobiles, and related equipment.
  • Perform routine and more complex preventive maintenance, servicing and inspections of cars, trucks, ambulances and larger grounds equipment; identify causes of malfunctions and repair mechanical, electrical, air conditioning and other automotive systems.
  • Determine if repairs should be repaired externally or in the repair shop; schedule and perform routine vehicle inspections; maintain related records.
  • Monitor inventory levels, obtain, and maintain stock of frequently used maintenance and replacement items.
  • Inspect completed vehicle maintenance and repairs both in-house and outsourced.
  • Measure the mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, or electrical characteristics of an item and compare the characteristics with prescribed standards.
  • Solicit, schedule, and coordinate work of outside vendors and suppliers.
  • Perform North Carolina Safety and Emissions inspections on all fleet vehicles.
  • Perform minor body repair work.
  • Document all repair and maintenance work performed, including labor, supplies and equipment.
  • Respond to request for road service as needed or ensure availability of emergency service.
  • Clean and maintain garage area as required.
  • Perform related work as assigned.
  • High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) year diesel certification from a technical college or school; or four (4) years of experience with diesel and gasoline vehicle repair.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license with an acceptable three-year driving history.
