Position Summary: The Senior Auditor is an experienced audit professional responsible for executing audit engagements, evaluating internal controls, and identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency and risk management. This role is designed for individuals with relevant experience who can independently perform assigned audit areas while collaborating with Audit Managers on planning, execution, and reporting activities. The Senior Auditor supports Sylvamo’s mission by delivering high quality audit work, applying professional audit standards, and building effective relationships across the organization. The Senior Auditor role is an onsite position located at Sylvamo’s Memphis Headquarters, in alignment with our work‑flex policy.

Requirements

  • Proficient with IIA professional practice standards.
  • Experience with operational, compliance, advisory, or SOX audits.
  • Familiarity with IT general controls, system-based controls, and technology risks supporting financial and operational processes.
  • Knowledge of data analysis tools such as Power BI.
  • Written and oral communication skills.
  • Supervisory skills.
  • CPA, CIA, CISA or progress toward professional certification.
  • Hands-on experience leveraging Audit Board for audit and risk management activities.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%

Responsibilities

  • Audit Execution & Fieldwork: Perform audit fieldwork in accordance with approved audit programs, timelines, and professional standards, including walkthroughs and control testing. Identify and document control gaps, process inefficiencies, and risk exposures while producing clear, well-supported audit workpapers.
  • Audit Planning Support: Support Audit Managers with audit planning activities by developing process understanding, assisting with risk identification, and providing input on audit scope and testing approaches. Participate in annual risk assessment activities as assigned.
  • Workpaper & Documentation Quality: Prepare high-quality audit documentation that complies with internal audit standards and IIA requirements, ensuring conclusions are adequately supported. Address review comments promptly and incorporate feedback to improve audit quality and consistency.
  • Audit Findings & Reporting: Draft audit observations that clearly articulate condition, criteria, cause, risk, and recommendations. Assist in preparing audit reports and participate in discussions with management regarding findings and corrective action plans.
  • Management Interaction: Cultivate relationships with various levels of management, providing insights and recommendations to improve internal controls and operational efficiencies.
  • Policy & Internal Controls Guidance: Offer expert advice on internal control concepts, policies, and procedures, ensuring consistent adherence to best practices across the organization.
  • Continuous Improvement & Development: Maintain knowledge of internal control concepts, audit standards, and business processes to enhance audit effectiveness. Contribute to audit process improvements, support special projects, and leverage data analytics or audit tools as appropriate.
