About The Position

Owl Labs is on a mission to transform how teams collaborate. Our smart video collaboration devices are redefining meeting experiences, and we’re looking for a talented Senior Audio Software Engineer to join our team. This is an opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology and build solutions that make hybrid work seamless, intuitive, and inclusive. You will focus on implementing, integrating, and deploying real-time audio pipelines on Android-based embedded systems. This role is a hybrid position based out of our office in Somerville, MA.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (Masters preferred).
  • 3+ years of industry experience in the conferencing, communications, and/or professional audio industry (5+ preferred).
  • Expert C++: Proven experience in real-time multi-threaded programming on embedded systems.
  • Experience with Android/Linux: Professional experience developing for Android devices and comfortable working in a Linux terminal for building and deploying code.
  • Audio Domain Knowledge: Deep understanding of digital audio fundamentals (AEC, Noise reduction) and wireless audio technologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Acoustics & Hardware: Experience with audio DAW (e.g., Audacity, Audition), audio testing software (SoundCheck, HEAD acoustics), and a solid understanding of speaker and microphone physics.
  • Android: Experience working with TinyALSA and Android Audio HAL.
  • Simulation: Familiarity with Python or MATLAB to verify algorithm behavior or analyze audio data.
  • Audio Domain Knowledge: Experience with beamforming algorithms. Experience with audio streaming protocols, codecs (Opus, AAC), and industry-standard communication requirements.
  • DSP Fundamentals: Familiarity with DSP and experience optimizing and integrating existing solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional software team to enhance the intelligence of our devices through the use of audio processing.
  • Design and implement state-of-the-art audio signal processing algorithms for real-time communication systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate audio processing solutions into our product ecosystem.
  • Develop system frameworks to debug real time audio issues and support hardware tuning efforts.
