The Role Thornton Tomasetti's Transportation practice is seeking a Structural Senior Associate Bridge to join our New York office. This role will engage in all phases of structural bridge project development, including planning, scheduling, inspection, analysis, design, cost estimating, and preparation of technical specifications and reports. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment, working alongside and managing a multidisciplinary team of engineers while providing technical guidance to CADD personnel and junior staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required; Master's degree preferred.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) License in New York required; P.E. in New Jersey a plus.
• 10-15 years of experience in the design and rehabilitation of bridge and transportation structures, including long-span bridges, highway bridges, retaining walls, and subway structures.
• Project management experience preferred.
• Experience with Design-Build projects.
• Familiarity with NYSDOT, NYCDOT, PANYNJ, and MTA agencies (B&T, NYCT, MNR, LIRR); strong preference for local project experience.
• Knowledge of AASHTO design methods, standards, and specifications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of complete projects.
• Manage staff and projects to ensure on time and on budget project completions.
• Develop, analyze, and solve complex engineering problems.
• Prepare and review calculations, designs, and reports for technical accuracy.
• Plan and coordinate detailed aspects of engineering assignments.
• Supervise and mentor engineers, providing guidance and feedback.
• Oversee CADD staff to ensure design intent and accuracy.
• Ensure compliance with corporate quality control standards.
• Support business development by participating in proposals and new project pursuits.
