About The Position

The Senior Associate Scientist will join our Translational Biology team and will be a key player in driving our drug discovery and development efforts in the immunology and inflammation space across both our cardiometabolic and neuroinflammation portfolios. In this role, you will be responsible for driving key data generation efforts with a focus on immune cell assays and utilizing various immune cell systems. You will support target validation, therapeutic lead optimization and drug profiling through the implementation and execution of both cellular and biochemical assays to advance our internal portfolio. The ideal candidate will have strong immune cell biology and immune cell profiling experience in an industrial setting. Relevant knowledge of various technologies in this space, including experience utilizing flow-cytometry, culture and stimulation of primary immune cells, Cell-sorting, and various techniques to study secretion of inflammatory molecules are key to this role. The successful candidate should demonstrate initiative, ability to tackle complex experiments with some level of independence and be able to thrive in a fast-paced biotechnology work environment including strong communication skills in a cross-functional team setting.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related field with 4+ years hands-on lab experience (e.g., biotechfacility such as Broad Institute or Harvard) in industry or academic settings (or equivalent education and experience)
  • Must have minimum 2 years practical experience using multi-color flow cytometry (panel design, instrument operation, data analysis)
  • Must have 3+ years of primary cell work including immune cells
  • Experience with cell sorting for isolation of various immune cell populations
  • Experience growing and maintaining primary immune cells and various mammalian cell lines.
  • Proficiency with at least one of the following: MSD, ELISA, HTRF, or Luminex
  • Strong understanding of Immune cell and inflammatory biology.
  • Experience in design and execution of cellular and biochemical assays.
  • Excellent communication and a willingness to learn new techniques.
  • Ability to work semi-independently to manage priorities and deliver high quality data in a timely manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with primary monocytes and T-cells including isolation by various methods (positive and negative selection)
  • Experience differentiating and/or skewing primary immune cells
  • Experience with whole blood assays
  • Experience with other biochemical and molecular assays (Western blotting, qPCR, EMSA, etc...)
  • Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Perform standard immune cell and inflammation related techniques (e.g. Flow cytometry, cell sorting, ELISA, MSD, Luminex, Western blot, etc...) and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Plan and execute immunology and inflammation-focused assays to enable target validation and early-stage drug discovery.
  • Culture, maintain and analyze a variety of mammalian cell types including primary immune cells and cell lines.
  • Support the development of cellular and functional assays for our preclinical portfolio.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment to achieve shared company goals and meet project deadlines.
  • Clearly document experiments, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and all experimental data in an electronic lab notebook (ELN).
  • Communicate and present experimental design and outcomes with project teams.

Benefits

  • Valo Health currently offers healthcare coverage, annual incentive program, retirement benefits and a broad range of other benefits.
