About The Position

StepStone Group LP (StepStone) seeks an Associate for our Private Equity team at its NYC location. The position involves engaging broadly in various areas of private equity, focusing on secondaries (as well as buyout, special sits, etc.), and contributing to all aspects of the secondary deal process. The Associate will utilize expertise as an investment professional to source, execute and complete successful private equity deals within our entrepreneurial, collaborative culture, with a high deal volume. Responsibilities include performing private equity deal sourcing/screening, conducting due diligence on private equity secondary and direct investments, leading evaluation and analysis of secondary transactions assets across stages, and working with outside groups to perform due diligence and execute transactions. The role also involves conducting financial due diligence, performing market research, preparing and presenting financial due diligence materials, negotiating the private equity deal closing/structuring process, and managing relationships with private equity sponsors and other investors. Additionally, the Associate will develop, coach, and lead deal teams, mentoring junior associates and analysts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Finance or a related field.
  • 3 years of experience in the job offered or as an Investment Banking Analyst.
  • 2 years of experience conducting market research for an investment bank on healthcare services and healthcare IT sectors.
  • Experience creating pitch decks and Confidential Information Decks (CIDs) to support M&A efforts.
  • Experience building bottom-up, three-statement financial models/forecasts.
  • Experience conducting valuation analyses using DCF, precedent transactions, market comparables, and LBO methodologies.
  • Experience utilizing platforms like Pitchbook and FactSet for market research and financial analysis.
  • 1 year of experience executing private equity buyout transactions focused on middle-market software companies.
  • Experience conducting ARR and retention analysis, stress-testing downside scenarios, and building LBO models.
  • Experience performing portfolio monitoring with middle-market software companies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage relationships with private equity sponsors, intermediaries, and advisors.
  • Develop, coach, and lead deal teams, mentoring junior associates and analysts.
