About the position

As a Senior Associate in Operational Risk and Control (within the First Line), you will play a critical role in strengthening our risk & control framework, driving operational excellence process improvement identification, and partnering across the Chief Operating Officer's organization to identify and mitigate risks. This role is ideal for a curious, solutions-oriented professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about making a meaningful impact. As the Senior Associate, Operational Risk and Control, you will assume a pivotal role in identifying, evaluating, and mitigating operational risks within our middle and back-office operations. Working in tandem with stakeholders across our global organization, your responsibilities will encompass documenting critical processes, risks, and controls, as well as crafting process flow diagrams, risk and control matrices, and associated procedural documentation. Furthermore, you will collaborate closely with our counterparts in the second and third lines of defense, alongside our external auditors, to facilitate the gathering and organization of audit-related inquiries. The Senior Associate, Operational Risk and Control will report to the Associate Director, Operational Risk and Control.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess operational risks associated with the firm's activities, processes, controls and systems.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of operational process, risk and control documentation, such as Risk and Control Matrices, Process Flow Diagrams, and supporting policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Investigate and analyze operational documentation and/or data sets, document key processes to proactively identify and document potential risk and control gaps.
  • Conduct reviews and evaluations of existing controls to ensure operating effectiveness and efficiency, in accordance with firm guidance and applicable methodologies.
  • Act as a liaison between our business owners and auditors; ensuring timely delivery of required documentation; and as required, raise potential audit matters to the Head of Operational Risk.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2-4 years' of experience with an emphasis on business process control, process re-engineering, first-line risk, internal controls, audit, or related fields, within financial services or the asset management industry.
  • Bachelor degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline.
  • A high-level of intellectual curiosity, desire to problem solve in a collaborative manner, and willingness to learn and breakdown complex processes are a must.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify, assess, and communicate potential risks effectively.
  • A willingness to learn certain audit requirements and industry best practices related to operational risk management, and controls and process design.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and integrity, across 2-3 project workstreams at any given time.
  • Proficient understanding of Microsoft Office, inclusive of Visio.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the asset management industry is preferred.
