About the position

The Senior Associate, Operational (Resilience) Risk will be responsible for supporting the Sallie Mae Operational Resilience Program and broader Risk Management Team by conducting business impact analysis, business continuity planning, disaster recovery planning, incident management planning and response activities, developing and delivering training, supporting test, and exercise, risk, and resilience assessments, and implementing resilience risk mitigation strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation and maintenance of the enterprise-wide operational resilience program including policies, standards, procedures, tools, and job aids.
  • Assist in identifying, analyzing, and prioritizing resilience risks across the organization through risk assessments, vendor and business unit plan reviews, and business impact analysis.
  • Assist in monitoring and reporting on key risk indicators to management and relevant stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of resilience training, test, and exercise programs to promote risk awareness and understanding among employees.
  • Support the development and implementation of incident response plans to address risk events. Be available for incident response as needed.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, Legal, Internal Audit, Risk Management, and other relevant functions to ensure effective coordination of operational resilience activities across the organization.

Requirements

  • Sound knowledge of business continuity, disaster recovery, incident management, operational resilience frameworks, methodologies, and tools.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 tools - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and best practices related to operational resilience.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess potential resilience risks and develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Bachelor's degree in a risk discipline, emergency management, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in operational resilience / business continuity, preferably in a regulated industry.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in a risk discipline, emergency management, or a related field.
  • Experience with RSA Archer Governance, Risk, and Compliance software.
  • Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII) Business Continuity certification.
  • Operational Resilience experience in a FFIEC/FDIC regulated financial institution.
