About The Position

As a Senior Associate, Government Affairs – Southwest Power Pool, you will focus on Invenergy's government affairs activities, primarily in the legislative and executive branch, across states in the Southwest Power Pool, particularly Kansas, Nebraska and New Mexico. The position will be on-site at Invenergy's Denver office. This position will support the overall Government Affairs initiatives and report to the Senior Manager, Government Affairs, ERCOT, and SPP. You will work collaboratively with members of all departments within the company. In addition, this position requires an ability to work constructively with trade organization leadership and staff, lobbyists, and peer companies. This position involves budgeting, preparing strategy documents, and weekly reporting.

Requirements

  • 5-8+ years of relevant professional experience with 2-3+ years of legislative or energy related experience (i.e. utility, trade org, ISO, agency, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Ability to travel 50% of the time during legislative time periods and 25% of the time during non-legislative time periods or as needed.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Support advocacy efforts across the region by understanding and developing relationships with necessary stakeholders and decisionmakers.
  • Proactively develop action plans and legislative solutions for issues impacting company projects.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with Invenergy contract lobbyists in each state and direct their activities.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders and interest groups to assist in achieving company objectives.
  • Draft and provide testimony as needed on legislation.
  • Identify, develop, and pass legislation to promote company objectives.
  • Identify potential legislative threats to the company, management, and cross-functional teams.
  • Support participation in relevant trade organization meetings.
  • Review statutory and regulatory requirements and develop comprehensive background reports on priority issues across key states.
