Senior Associate General Counsel
About The Position
The Office of Legal Affairs, under the direction of the Senior Vice President and General Counsel, provides legal representation and advice to the University and all of its constituent parts, including the Board of Trustees, the President, the Wexner Medical Center, the Office of Academic Affairs, Student Life, Athletics, Human Resources, Business and Finance, among many others. As one of the largest universities in the nation, Ohio State is a multifaceted and sophisticated institution, with a high-level and leading-edge legal practice that touches nearly every area of law, including litigation, labor and employment law, constitutional law, civil rights law, construction and public contracting, intellectual property, business transactions, real estate, tax and benefits, public safety and criminal law matters, immigration law, sports law, administrative law, health care law, and privacy matters. The Senior Associate General Counsel - Business/Finance/Transactional Attorney. Provides legal advice and services to University leadership and University affiliates in areas of sophisticated business practice, including governance, business & finance, capital formation, mergers & acquisitions, securities law, including venture capital and private equity financings, as well as legal review of and recommendations regarding existing and proposed general business operations, and assistance with general business issues. Provides legal advice and services to senior leadership, department heads and administrators of the university and affiliated entities as needed. Drafts and reviews contracts and other legal instruments. Conducts and supervises legal research. Initiates and implements special projects. Participates in training seminars and workshops for the University community. Works under the general supervision and direction of the Deputy General Counsel and Senior Associate Vice President. Must have approval of the Ohio Attorney General's Office prior to appointment to serve as an Assistant Attorney General of Ohio.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.), graduate from an accredited law school and be a member of the Ohio bar or eligible to practice law in the State of Ohio within one year or less.
- Must have approval of the Ohio Attorney General's Office prior to hire.
- A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a law firm or corporation with a focus on sophisticated business and commercial transactions.
Responsibilities
