Reporting to the Law School Dean, this professional oversees all aspects of Academic Affairs at the Law School by recommending faculty and adjunct teaching assignments; prepares the schedules of course offerings for the Fall, Spring and Summer terms; works with the faculty to receive and approve course syllabi; oversees the administration of exams and approval of all grades submitted by faculty; oversees all aspects of student academic programs and monitors students' academic progress, including the evaluation of students' records for academic supervision, probation, and dismissal; and administers the Honor Code.

  • Oversees the law school's curricular goals and academic programs by analyzing program needs and establishing priorities for the curriculum.
  • Engages in strategic and operational planning to evaluate options and initiate strategies for resolution of issues.
  • Analyzes and implements policies and procedures.
  • Develops solutions to issues raised by faculty, staff and students using a comprehensive knowledge of Law School, University, and ABA policies and procedures.
  • Sets the annual Academic Calendar for the Law School and prepares the course schedules and faculty teaching assignments for each semester/term for approval by the Dean.
  • Identifies and interviews new prospective adjuncts and makes hiring recommendations to the Dean.
  • Reviews and approves all exams in advance of their administration for purposes of determining that the exams are sufficiently clear, complex, rigorous and error free.
  • Reviews and approves all grades in advance of posting.
  • Works closely with the Dean by serving as the Dean's number one point person, or second in command, on matters related to general operations, human resources, and finances.
  • Stands in for the Dean at events such as Open House, Admitted Students Day, etc.
  • Deals effectively with sensitive and confidential issues.
  • Keeps abreast of formal and informal ABA standards and constraints.
  • Works collaboratively with all Associate and Assistant Deans and Department Directors by leading, guiding, directing, and evaluating the work of the other administrators.
  • Meets with administrators to discuss goals, challenges, new ideas for improvement and to coordinate inter-office responses and efforts.
  • Supervises the Registrar and directs the work of the office.
  • Monitors the academic progress of students by reviewing students' academic standing after each semester.
  • Prepares all dismissal and probation letters to students.
  • Reviews the transcripts of all prospective graduates for verification of their satisfaction of all degree requirements and authorizing the posting of the degree.
  • Administers the Honor Code by receiving Honor Code complaints and conducting initial investigations.
  • Ensures that all Complaints are processed according to the rules in a timely fashion.
  • Notifies all accused students of the disposition of their cases and keeps official records.
  • Responds to inquiries from Bar Authorities regarding information on Honor Code by students and graduates.
  • Drafts reports, prepares surveys, writes descriptions, and maintains records on behalf of Dean's Office.
  • Completes accreditation reports, statistics, and committee work for SACS, ABA, and AALS.
  • Serves as the Law School's Administrator for the preparation and submission of the ABA's Annual Questionnaire, Employment Questionnaire, and Bar Passage Questionnaire.
  • Teaches one course per semester, when and as needed, while maintaining regular full-time administrative duties.
  • JD required.
  • Five to eight years of appropriate administrative experience with a school of law.
  • Ability to analyze program needs and implement regulations, policies and procedures in a wide variety of contexts.
  • Ability to effectively articulate and advance organizational goals.
  • Ability to produce substantial reports and make effective presentations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of programs and strategies that enhance academic programs and support the academic retention and success of students.
  • Skilled in maintaining an open line of communication with practicing attorneys and judges to ensure that the Law School can hire adjuncts who are specialized in their areas of practice.
