About The Position

The Senior Associate Dean for Assessment, Evaluation and Accreditation is a core member of the Department of Medical Education senior leadership team and will provide leadership, direction, and oversight in three key areas: Assessment, Evaluation and Accreditation; and responsibility for continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives; and compliance with standards and requirements set forth by accrediting bodies, including the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). The Senior Associate Dean is responsible for designing, overseeing, and improving all aspects of medical student assessment and program evaluation. This role ensures that the medical education program meets and exceeds LCME accreditation standards and fosters a culture of CQI. The ideal candidate will employ data-driven strategies to assess curriculum effectiveness, student performance, and program outcomes while collaborating with diverse stakeholders to enhance the medical education program, outcomes and medical student satisfaction. The Senior Associate Dean for Assessment, Evaluation and Accreditation will report to the Dean for Medical Education and will be appointed faculty in the Department of Medical Education.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree, i.e., MD, DO, EdD, or Ph.D. is required.
  • 5+ years of experience in higher education and/or medical education assessment and evaluation, with significant leadership experience in accreditation, compliance and quality improvement.
  • Ability to present and use data to inform decisions and strategy.
  • Experience and demonstrated success in compliance with LCME accreditation standards and elements.
  • Knowledge and understanding of best practices in CQI and performance improvement in medical education and higher education.
  • Demonstrated success utilizing the plan, do, study, act methodology.
  • Ability to provide servant leadership.
  • Success at leading interdisciplinary teams.
  • Comfort with working with colleagues from all areas of the institutional hierarchy.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Strong written, presentation, and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of student assessment systems that align with curricular objectives and measure medical student learning outcomes across the entire Medical Degree (MD) Program curriculum.
  • Oversee the use of diverse assessment tools to ensure reliability and validity and that assessments align with curricular content and educational goals.
  • Oversee the analysis of student performance on standardized and local exams, directing the analysis, reporting, and interpretation of findings.
  • Collaborate with Academic Success Team to monitor at-risk medical students and develop strategies to support their success.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive systems to evaluate all phases of the MD Program curriculum.
  • Oversee data collection, management, and analysis from various sources to identify trends, strengths, and areas for curriculum improvement.
  • Collaborate with curriculum committees to integrate evaluation findings into curriculum design and improvement efforts.
  • Provide actionable insights and plans through regular reports and presentations to leadership, faculty, committees, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance to meet and exceed accreditation standards and requirements established by accrediting bodies, including LCME and Middle State.
  • Monitor program performance to align with accreditation standards while supporting the department's broader strategic planning initiatives.
  • Lead compliance initiatives and manage all aspects of the accreditation process to maintain and enhance institutional standards.
  • Drive CQI initiatives based on evaluation and assessment data, implementing innovative solutions to improve curriculum and student outcomes.
  • Lead efforts to monitor and enhance quality of the MD Program.
  • Identify emerging trends and best practices in medical education to ensure the program remains current and competitive.
  • Provide supervision and leadership for all personnel supporting program assessment, evaluation, CQI and LCME accreditation compliance.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and professional growth among team members.
  • Collaborate with Decanal staff across Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai to develop best practices in assessment, evaluation, and CQI.
  • Represent the department in institutional and external meetings related to medical education assessment and accreditation.
  • Engage actively with the community of medical education professionals and position Icahn Mount Sinai as a leader in the national landscape.
  • Remain current in the academic field with ongoing education, training and participation in academic networks.
  • Actively contribute to Medical Education scholarship including, but not limited to, diverse academic pursuits, research, publications and regional, national and international presentations.
