The Sr. Associate, Cost Accounting provides SAP system expertise to the department in areas to include sales & distribution, vehicle costing, and consumer affairs vehicle goodwill buybacks. Provide interface with various internal and external constituents and interacts with company employees at all levels in providing and obtaining information required to track company performance. Trains and assists Associates in the performance of their job duties. Refers questionable or unusual items to superior. Evaluates, recommends, and documents suggested system improvements to facilitate proper internal controls and/or efficient operations. Performs routine and ad-hoc reporting and analysis of sales and cost information. Prepares monthly operating reports.

  • Verify and ensure the accuracy of cost detail provided by the Vehicle Cost System.
  • Maintain and monitor vehicle standard costs; review and resolve price variances as required.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries relative to areas of responsibility and participate in month-end closing tasks as assigned.
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations on assigned general ledger accounts; work to resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Prepare assigned financial statements and reports related to vehicle/parts accounting including preparation of internal and external financial schedules.
  • Review and analyze vehicle sales, cost, margin, and variances to prior periods and budget; review, process, and research cost data generated from SAP COPA module and related reports including KFIN, Allocated P&L by Channel/Series, and other similar reports as developed from time to time.
  • In cooperation with Glovis port manager and processors, coordinate and conduct annual vehicle Port Physical Inventory and related reconciliations for assigned port locations.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and tracking schedules to record sales provision accruals on both a GAAP and IFRS accounting basis.
  • Assist with preparation and reporting of monthly and quarterly intercompany reporting.
  • Develop/maintain desk procedures for areas of assigned responsibility.
  • Assist in the operation of the Finance Department records retention and disposition program.
  • Document changes to vehicle accounting procedures as needed.
  • Track and cost vehicles related to HCA lease vehicle program to compute applicable sales rebate; coordinate vehicle transactions and approvals with HCA.
  • Provide analysis and schedules as required in support of quarterly and yearly audit engagements.
  • Perform review and finance approval of accounts payable accounting documents up to delegated amounts (currently $5,000).
  • Create monthly journal entries and account posting to record and adjust for accounting transactions.
  • Submit ITSM requests to correct system issues and/or performance improvements as required.
  • Must be a high school graduate.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Four or more years of experience in accounting or finance with three to four years in a cost accounting capacity.
  • General knowledge of general and standard cost accounting methods and principles.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to formally present financial information relative to assigned tasks.
  • Detail oriented with good organization skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to think critically.
  • SQL Database query utilization and development.
  • Possess considerable working knowledge of Excel spreadsheet program and utilize software to automate reporting requirements.
  • Working knowledge of inventory control and physical inventory procedures.
  • SAP knowledge helpful.
