About The Position

The Senior Associate Athletics Director will report directly to the Deputy Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator (Deputy AD/SWA); must also work closely with all others involved with carrying out the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletic program. This position will serve in a senior leadership capacity for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and create and implement operational policies and procedures, practices, and standards in consultation with the Deputy AD/SWA that ensure optimal efficiency within the department.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree is required, preferably in business, public administration, sports administration, or related field.
  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience in NCAA rules compliance at the Division I level is required.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Oversight in the operation and conduct of the sport or unit.
  • Monitor work schedules, times sheets, leave requests and overtime.
  • Responsible for hiring, training and evaluations.
  • Communicate with the head coach on a continual basis regarding program development, budget, rules and scheduling issues.
  • Advise and assist the Director of Athletics on matters of personnel within program.
  • Attend select home and away competitions to observe the coaches and student-athletes to ensure compliance with various regulations.
  • Assist in game management duties to ensure quality, safety and enjoyment of university athletic events.
  • Function as the home game administrator.
  • Administer the operation and conduct of the Athletics Compliance unit and rules compliance program.
  • Direct the athletics compliance staff in the establishment of compliance strategies and design of monitoring systems.
  • Serve as the Department lead on student-athlete name, image, and likeness (NIL) and revenue sharing matters.
  • Provide oversight of the implementation and maintenance of systems for communication, organization, documentation and evaluation.
  • Oversee implementation and monitor computerized compliance system.
  • Direct investigation and reporting of all NCAA rules violations.
  • Serve as advisor to senior leadership for the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
  • Develop procedures, systems and auditing practices to ensure rules compliance.
  • Administer the development and delivery of NCAA rules educational programs.
  • Identify responsibilities of athletics staff for implementing and supervising compliance systems.
  • Compile and facilitate NCAA and conference waivers and appeals.
  • Communicate with departmental and university personnel regarding compliance issues.
  • Advise and assist the Vice President/Director of Athletics and President’s Office on matters relating to rules compliance and legislation.
  • Research rule interpretations for athletic department staff members.
  • Serve on various departmental committees as requested.
  • Actively participate in game day duties for football and other athletic events.
  • Provide oversight of the High-Profile Student-Athlete Educational and Monitoring Program.
  • Administer rules education materials to all individuals identified as representatives of athletics interests.
  • Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Vice President/Director of Athletics or designee.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with all rules, regulations, policies, and guidelines of West Virginia University, the Big 12 Conference, CSC, and the NCAA.
  • Represent the University on the highest professional level with dignity, integrity, and strength of character.
  • Demonstrate a cooperative attitude towards all sports within the intercollegiate athletic program.
  • Manage sensitive and confidential information related to student-athletes, coaches and staff utilizing discretion.
  • Manage professional and personal time to handle time sensitive-issues, tight deadlines, extended hours beyond the normal workday.
