About The Position

The Senior Associate Athletic Director of Development at Rice University is responsible for overseeing and managing all fundraising efforts for the Athletics department. This role involves strategic planning, campaign execution, budget management, and collaboration with various stakeholders including coaches, staff, donors, and volunteers to maximize fundraising opportunities. The position also includes supervising development staff, managing a prospect portfolio, and coordinating major gift proposals and solicitations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Eight years of related experience in annual giving, sales, or an external revenue generating function
  • Leadership and strategic management skills
  • Strong organization skills with keen attention to detail
  • Foundation in problem solving and data analysis
  • Ability to create major annual giving plans and lead a development team
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Experience with direct mail, telemarketing, and/or database marketing
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Professional experience in collegiate athletics or higher education in an external revenue generating function
  • Experience in planning and implementing major and annual giving strategies
  • Familiarity with constituent databases such as Ticketmaster Archtics or Blackbaud
  • Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or InDesign.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of fundraising efforts for the Athletics department.
  • Lead strategic planning and annual goal setting for fundraising activities.
  • Collaborate with Rice Development and Alumni relations to ensure a coordinated approach to athletics fundraising.
  • Supervise development staff and manage a prospect portfolio.
  • Coordinate all major gift proposals and solicitations.
  • Engage with the Owl Club and Special Interest Group (SIG) fundraising activities.
  • Work closely with the head of the 'R' Association for letter winner engagement.
  • Facilitate donor tickets and parking in collaboration with the Ticket Sales team.
  • Serve on the department's executive staff and may act as a sport administrator as assigned.
