The University of Connecticut is seeking applications and nominations for the position of Senior Associate Athletic Director/Chief Financial Officer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum eight years’ experience in financial management.
  • Ability to interact and relate well with a wide variety of campus and community constituencies.
  • Well organized, with attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in contract review and negotiation.
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's of Business Administration.
  • Previous experience at a place of higher education, working in a business office setting.
  • 5 or more years of experience in a supervisory role or a chief financial officer role.
  • Demonstrated experience in improving operating margins over multiple years.
  • Professional experience in a FBS Division I collegiate athletics environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Director of Athletics with key financial decisions and will serve as a member of the athletic department executive team.
  • Providing daily operations management for the athletic business office, including the oversight of the business office staff.
  • Overseeing all finance and business activities, including strategic and long-range financial planning, budgeting, reporting, purchasing, and travel.
  • Serving as the primary liaison to the University’s Finance Department and the UConn Foundation staff on all transactions within athletics foundation accounts.
  • Identifying and implementing fiscal efficiencies in the department's operational budget.
  • Assisting with revenue sharing operations, including the management of name, image, and likeness payments and reconciliation in conjunction with internal and external constituents.
  • Working closely with the University’s Information Technology Services staff on asset management and software oversight.
  • Overseeing the annual budget process for the athletic department, including expense projections and the support of revenue-generating operations for budget forecasting.
  • Executing human resources functions, including but not limited to offer letter distribution, employee transition services, and merit processes, with a knowledge and understanding of the labor union impacts.
  • Managing and overseeing other critical functions of the business office, including the completion of audited financial statements, compiling regular financial statements, assisting with open records requests, reviewing and processing game contracts, assisting with internal audits, tracking contract timelines and coordinating procurement solicitations with the University Purchasing Department and contract review with the University’s General Counsel.
  • Managing the department’s relationship with the department’s travel agency and ensure compliance with departmental and University policies and procedures, as well as identify fiscal efficiencies in travel booking.
  • Responsible for oversight of all departmental expenditures, deposits, and authorizations for expenditures, including but not limited to reimbursements, travel authorizations and advances, payroll, and purchase requisitions.
  • Sport supervision responsibilities depending on the candidate’s level of experience, and the performance of additional duties as requested.
