About The Position

The Senior Assistant Dean of Communication and Advancement at Hofstra University is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with external and internal stakeholders, including the health care industry, alumni, faculty, and students. This role focuses on enhancing the School of Health Sciences' image and communication strategies, promoting programs and events, and supporting the Dean in strategic initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master's degree required.
  • Minimum 5 years' related experience in public affairs and public relations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with demonstrated effective interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse constituents with professionalism and diplomacy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Highly motivated self-starter, able to work independently, collaboratively, and with great levels of responsibility.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in an educational environment.
  • Innovative professional with a deep understanding of the synergies between education and the health sector.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership or related discipline preferred.
  • Five years of administrative experience in the health care sector and/or higher education.
  • Existing partnerships with, and knowledge of, the health care industry highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes new and fosters existing connections and collaborations between professionals in the health care industry, employers, alumni, faculty, students, and campus partners.
  • Develops, coordinates, and implements initiatives that improve communication and collaboration among the School's external and internal stakeholders.
  • Identifies and pursues opportunities to advance the School's image and reputational brand by developing and enhancing ongoing communication plans, marketing initiatives, and a meaningful social media presence.
  • Takes a lead role with Alumni Relations to develop and maintain connections with alumni, ensuring efficient communication regarding employment, events, and fundraising opportunities.
  • Assists with ongoing planning process to implement the annual School wide goals and strategic plan of the School.
  • Assists the Dean in developing a base of support for the School with business, industry, government, and educational partners.
  • Represents SHS at on-campus and off-campus special events and actively promotes program activities across campus among various constituencies.
  • Plays a lead role in the logistical aspects of SHS signature events such as National Public Health Week, speaker series, conferences, research showcases, and other special projects.
  • Serves as the liaison to the Office of Study Abroad and assists faculty in the planning and coordination of international and domestic learning excursions/courses.
  • Oversees the Marques Colston Fellowship in Health, an undergraduate fellowship opportunity for rising upper-class students within SHS that helps students develop professional skills in communications, community service, leadership, and personal branding; identifies opportunities for fellowships.
  • Serves as a liaison for the Office of Undergraduate Admission and coordinates SHS representation at undergraduate open houses, informational sessions, and special tours.
  • Promotes and markets school programs and events, as well as student, faculty, and alumni research, accomplishments, and expertise.
  • Maintains a high-quality social media presence for the school.
  • Collaborates with Marketing and Communications on public relations materials: i.e. news media, press releases, photography/videography, etc.
  • Supports SHS podcast through collaborating with School of Communication stakeholders.
  • Oversees the Dean's Student Leadership Council which consists of undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Works with graduate programs on fiscal management of academic related student organizations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
