About The Position

Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, this position will supervise the administration and development of the aquatic departments of the assigned center. The role encompasses the development and administration of the department, including program development, promotion, implementation, and evaluation. It also involves staff hiring, scheduling, training, and supervision, as well as monitoring safety practices and ensuring adherence to standards. The Senior Aquatics Director is responsible for the financial operation of the department in accordance with Center and Association goals, objectives, and policies. This individual is part of a staff team at the Fishers Center YMCA and is expected to possess a team-oriented leadership style. Recognizing that this individual may bring skills in areas other than aquatics, it will be desirable to utilize those skills through sharing of responsibilities with other professional staff.

Requirements

  • Background of physical education with an emphasis on aquatic and fitness related programming
  • A bachelor’s degree in physical education, recreation/related area or its equivalent in related professional experience
  • Two-three years’ experience in YMCA or similar agency
  • Good overall picture of YMCA philosophy and values
  • Current certifications in CPR
  • Current certifications in First Aid
  • Current certifications in Lifeguarding
  • Well-defined administration skills for adequate management of aquatic instruction, training and aquatic fitness programs
  • Administrative skills and abilities in personnel management
  • Administrative skills and abilities in program planning
  • Administrative skills and abilities in income production
  • Administrative skills and abilities in expense control
  • Administrative skills and abilities in training
  • Administrative skills and abilities in public relations and interpretation
  • Administrative skills and abilities in record-keeping
  • Administrative skills and abilities in facility utilization
  • Administrative skills and abilities in equipment maintenance and care
  • Possess a leadership style that is team-oriented

Responsibilities
